Followed closely by the "HOLY CRAP I MUST BUY MORE OF IT!" panic a day or two before the gates open (I'm hellbent on NOT doing that this year).

Finishing re-caulking all the windows and seams on the RV today. It's been a disgusting 2 day process (WHO caulks the bottom??!! ) but I'm finally about to go lay in the fresh caulk.
My day will probably go downhill from there as the next task is getting the new shutoff valve for the black water tank to finally go in and seal. I think we're on the 5th try. The first day of that task was more unpleasant that I'd care to recount.
I need to get that done and put the bottom back on so I can take it to the shop tonight and see if they can fix the speedometer or if I'll have no cruise control for the 3000 mile drive.

And oh yeah, I leave Saturday

Neighbor put out an old rug for the trash man last night.
This morning it is in my garage.

I know exactly what it's like doing all those RV and mechanical chores... but I'm still extremely envious of your "new" rig!!

I added enough more lighting to my MV that a blind man with a welding helmet on can see it in a fog at two miles out.
NOW I'm pretty confident I'll pass muster for that night license!

I had to replace the foam seal at the floor boards of our little plastic Aqua Magic toilet, in the process I dropped one of the bolts into the black water tank.
THANK GOD IT HAD SAT ALL WINTER AND WAS COMPLETELY DRY!!!!!!!!!!

Turned out to be the little ball valve on the clean water, that was leaking, not the seal at the floor.
I learned in the process that back in the 80's Thetford used to make the little valves for those plastic RV toilets with metal (I think brass) ball valves and they would corrode and leak just a little.

Went to the doc yesterday and got script for meds, don't want to run out, ya'know. I pick up 3 months supply, quarterly.

My caretaker wants to tag along next year, she has even less than me; but next year we both apply in January for low income tickets.

I went to the library to make copies of my disability vehicle invitation, my low income ticket award letter and my ticket confirmation letter to present at will call.

I read that the trash fence was put up in nine and a half hours, yesterday. Over 5 miles of fence in one day !!!

My living-room is half filled with bags and boxes, ready to go.

Checked rates on my hotels, one went up by $6 one went down by the same amount I'm not going to bother canceling and rescheduling unless there's something significant (sometimes there is as the date nears).

I received my Amazon order, one can grape Vitalyte, two different size bungee ball sets, some throwaway EL lighting (for some ridiculously low price that was enough to throw me over the top for free shipping) and a book.

Went to the doctor for antibiotics as I leave in 2 weeks (oh fuck!) and my almost severed fingertip (don't ask) had the sutures taken out too early by a 4th year med student, it gapped and is probably infected. I could not go on the playa the way it is now, hoping for some speed healing.

I bought 2 of these for this year

I'll have to decorate them so my partner and I can tell them apart. A urinal container is not something I care to share.

Shade structure is ready ... I learned that putting it up and taking it down solo is not a good idea. Some slight bend to a couple pieces of conduit. Should be OK.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the injury, Pup. I slit my thumb on the playa last year (whittling with a dull knife) and the medtent had a great idea for keeping the dust out: cut the finger off a rubber glove and use it to cover the wound. A finger condom, but to keep stuff out. Tape down with sports tape. It worked well to keep the injury clean for half a week.

Drove to Oakland today and picked up my black rock shade structure. Yay. Also swung by cool neon and picked up a 25 ft piece of El wire to redo my sweetie's tails in aqua blue. Made an appointment to get the van smogged tomorrow. It's mostly just sorting and packing at this point. I am going to try to do a trial run of the shade this week.

It's getting so close! Yay!

Finger cots! I have some of those in my first aid kit. They make your finger sweat a bit, but it's nice reinforcement over a dressing and under a glove while you're doing manual labor.

Feel better, Sic Pup! :o They should be able to do something.

. . . I've got a ridiculous summer cold, personally. Thank goodness I have it now and not 2 weeks from now. Time for more zinc, vitamins, sleep and fluids.

I got a solar charge controller in the mail. Now I'm nursing the idea of a panel, or panels, battery, batteries. ? Need to evaluate my needs before I plunge in to this.

Thanks all, part of my problem are the cots, it happened 2 weeks ago Sunday and as I work with food I have to keep it covered. Mainly bandages/cots for 10 hours at a stretch. It's delayed the healing a bit but I'll live.

I was making a Charred Cilantro-Lime Slaw and stupidly chattering with a co-worker and not paying attention, after I charred the red cabbage on the grill I started shaving it with my Chef's knife. Looked away and ended up with a tangling fingertip. Emergency room, 8 stiches and a sleepless night in the ER later the Chef complimented me on the slaw (I kept it on the d/l). Almost all of my war wounds to date have been burns, this is my first major cut.

Here's the recipe:

Cut medium heads of red cabbage into six pieces. Char all three sides of each piece on grill. Slaw the cabbage (not the fingers).

Dressing:
Lime juice
Fish sauce
Chopped cilantro
Brown sugar

Combine in processor

Drizzle in canola oil to make an emulsion
Salt to taste

I omitted quantities because I do 8 heads of cabbage at a pop. If you want to scale it down, it's 16oz lime juice, 8oz fish sauce, 2 bunches cilantro, one cup sugar and 6 cups canola, you do the math.

You can veganize it with this

I recently was assigned the task of veganizing as much of our menu as possible, quite the project.

Ouch, BoyScoutGirl, at least my knife was razor sharp and the pain didn't come until later, fingers are so sensitive. The jury is still out as to whether there's nerve damage but I don't think so.

Oh no, AntiM.Growing up we had a plumber who had a smaller thumb jutting out from his thumb, nail and all. Story was he split it with an axe and it healed that way but my dad was prone to a few tall tales in his day so who knows?

Hope you feel better, Sav. Hot lemon and honey with a little alcohol fortification should help a little (if not physically, at least mentally)

well, it's not a secret: I SAY I'm going to do a lot of things, and then have a very slow time doing them. I like that you see that as thinking things through. thank you. I've procured most of the parts, more than I really need. (does anyone else upgrade before use?) I have slight electrical needs, but up-scaling my audio needs either more voltage, and capacity, or an inverter, and I found an AC item that is pretty cool (could also be a total playa dud. I might put it in a jar. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdet ... er=243-152) I've done fine with off the shelf batteries in the past. Reality could be one way or the other. I found a local panel seller and will go check that out tomorrow. This near to Burning Man procurement itch is so compelling. I try to look at the past and see how much last minute obsessions paid off. Most fun was had with the simplest of things, and things I already had, like Ratty says.

These don't look very special as far as playa goggles go, but they really are. I took some cheapo welding goggles with the screw-on swappable filters, and 3D printed some adapter rings for some round prescription lenses taken from glasses I ordered online. Voila, prescription dust goggles...and one more trick up their sleeve: they're photochromic lenses, so they'll darken automatically during the day and turn clear at night. Need a little more sealing around some holes, but should be deluxe.

Still have a bunch to do before truck load, but today I made a measuring triangle thingy (technical term) out of cord, for placing the stakes of my monkey hut. Should get me correct distances and right angles without messing around with a measuring tape.

Secured a carpool to the playa - I was planning on taking a series of buses, but this will be more direct. Thank goodness I pack light.

Also managed to schedule a bunch of hours helping our CORE finish in time.
