Be Gentle, it's our first time :)
Greetings!
Two Virgin (couple) male burners looking for a camp to join! Just got out tickets today. Here is our "story" in a nutshell.
Me, 38, ginger, originally from South Africa, lived in Toronto, San Francisco, NYC and most recently rural Tucson, AZ. I moved back to the bay area after the end of a LTR and started over from scratch, just me an my chihuahua, Roscoe. Met Bryan, the other half, through burner friends. He is in his 40's work for higher education, well traveled, and has lived abroad and in the middle East. We have seasoned burner friends already committed to other camps that are closed, and past burners who can not make the trip this year. We are looking to participate, assist, help, and join a camp/community to make our experience and everyone else's the best that it can be! Any assistance, leads, ideas, for a camp to call "home" would be appreciated. Cheers. Justin.

My two cents worth...
It might be getting a bit late to org to join a group - you don't want to join an unhappy bunch or not have done your "homework"
See who you meet in the gate line, or at the shops in Reno, you might meet some great people there.
When you get in the camping areas pull up and see who is about - you don't need a camp. You will be OK!
Don't be afraid to ask your neighbours for some help (yeah yeah radical self reliance...pfft). Most people are awesome and will help you - but some people are c**ts so you should ignore them.
If you don't find an established theme camp but you want to part of "something" pop along to lamplighters, or just jump in and help out people who look like they are doing something fun.
Have a blast

Thanks International Incident, you did ease my fears! We just secured our tickets today and thought we already had a place to call home at the Burn, but thats not going to happen.

You can have just as much fun not being in a camp.
Once you get set up you will not be alone.

I agree with the above posts. It's a friendly place, get to know your neighbors! Some of my best friends now are people I camped next to at Burning Man. Purely by accident the first year, then coincidentally the next year, then... well, the next three years, we planned on it.

Totally agree with the above posts - look through the boards, make sure you have your needs covered for your own camping & you're good to go. If you want to camp near the "Gayborhood", camp along 7:30 (you'll probably end up back past G, but that's not a problem with a bike), but don't think you're limited to that. I've never camped there, and usually only go a couple times to visit friends, but I understand it's more comfortable for some people.
