Low key Canadian looking for a camp

Post by Sundial » Thu Aug 08, 2013 5:25 am

Yeah, I know this post is a long shot, but here goes.

Basically, I'm a 31 year old guy coming down from Canada looking for a camp. I'm pretty laid back and have no problems with things like nudity or different politics or whatever, but I prefer for home base to not be a "party destination". I'm pretty much self sufficient, but a place to hang a shower and dump grey water would certainly be nice. Also, I'm responsible and have no problem with some assigned camp duties, or with playing a part in whatever theme the camp is rolling with.

Anyone have any recommendations? :?:

Sharpie it crudely on some old T-shirts and it will be perfect.

Since we're not a camp, the swag should not be all fancy shmancy!!! 8)

I'm trying to decide between you clearly awesome people and the camp over in this thread http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... 23&t=65680. Both definitely have their merits. Its a hard decision!

On a related note, can somebody point me to a thread that explains how to make a really simple shower water catcher dealie for one person so I can figure out how feasible that would be for me? I believe delle knows of such a contraption. If I can't do that, then it's probably the Human Carcass Wash for me. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing.

The main site has a very simple evaporation pond recipe that works for 2+ people. Search "grey water" to find it. Make sure you get the 6 mm black plastic, not thinner stuff. You will probably have to buy a large roll of it, & could use a little extra for bedding cover/evap ponds at subsequent Burns. Or you could bargain with others in camp; maybe some others would like to make evap ponds too, and go in on a purchase. But don't share yours until you see how well it works, and how long it takes to evaporate. You might need to funnel the last batch of grey water back into a container and dispose of properly off-playa.

Huh! Apparently BMORG is now officially telling people to NOT build evap ponds. Shocking. o.o

Get one of these.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Plasgad-Medi ... /202086173

Line it with a beach towel.

Use just enough water to get clean.

The towel will get damp or wet, but not dripping wet.

Hang the towel up for an hour, and your ready for your next shower and no grey water worries. 8)

That's a really good idea. Plus the black colour would help with evaporation.

I've done some more reading on the subject of bathing. Between the ideas of wipes, spray bottles, sponges and now this, I'm thinking a shower is not really SUPER necessary after all.

I have one of those black trays with an old fluffy bathroom rug in it set up under my folding ladder (Used during camp construction), with a solar shower bag on that top "This is Not a Step". I'm setting up a strainer, a pillowcase lining a plant pot set in a 5 gallon bucket to collect dirty dish/pot water, to avoid adding that directly to the shower tray. Might have a seperate evap for that water....

Oh, I bring small hand towels for drying myself along with washclothes, several in seperate ziplocks, the heat does most of the drying, and a folding chair to set up in or next to the shower basin, to sit and wipe down the feet and legs in comfort with a wet clothe. And disposable handi-wipes for the evening clean-up.

Alot more wet wiping than shower, in other words. Sit down with a quart of water and a rag.....

I use a solar shower to heat water... wash my hair over a basin, use a washcloth and soap for the rest. pour into 5 gallon grey water container. About 1.5 liters per wash.
things like this before bed.
