Re: Rain on the Playa
For the skittish or inexperienced, a few packing tips:
-If it rains while you're there, it'll definitely be followed by colder than normal temperatures.
-Consider extra footwear and socks. But also time for your feet to breathe so they don't rot.
-Carry extra gear on you when out of camp if it looks like weather. You could be stuck out of camp for a long time.
-Consider methods of elevating your sleeping area (almost certainly unnecessary, but how many inches of rain does it take to enter your tent/yurt?).
-In case of serious rain, the access roads *will* be closed until they are entirely dry. Consider packing a method of dealing with waste if the portos cannot be serviced. Prepare to miss your flight (along with everyone else) if this happens near the end of the event.
If you're out and about in rain. Stop. Don't drive. Don't ride your bike. Walk to the nearest shelter. Don't try to make it back to camp. Make new friends.
If you're part of a Theme Camp or just have your own serious infrastructure, elevate your damn power connections and seal in plastic bags.

I should add, please carry your bike to shelter with you, if at all possible. Don't be a tool and just leave it out on the playa.Cactus Pete wrote: If you're out and about in rain. Stop. Don't drive. Re: Rain on the Playa
I suggested mud wrestling to the First Mate already, but she said the issue would be having enough water to wash up.
On an unrelated note, I'm now shopping for bigger water barrels.

Re: Rain on the Playa
SERIOUSLY though.
there are few things more demoralizing at burning man than rain.
especially rain when yer trying to get shit setup or work in some way.
......just hope that the big rain stays away during the event
CUZ OMG HOLY COW.. that would suck a lot..
you DONT want to bust in to the BRC contingency plans.
if it gets bad enough to close the playa theyd be turning people away at fernley ..with those already passed fernely directed to the ranch.. and the ranch is a zillion times more boring than burning man.
i dont/wont have any real way to elevate my stuff so i just be hoping for the best.. i will bring the normal gear i always bring: emergency poncho, umbrella and a shitload of ziplocks/grocery bags and some trash bags.
perhaps this year i will consider beinging the dry bag and some heavy duty "oh crap its wet" bags to tie around my feet!!! cuz i dont got no wellies !

Oh, and if you drive in while its dry and the forecast is for rain, park your vehicle on 2x6s so it doesn't sink during the week.

Maybe I should start a new thread, or email FIGJAM directly, but what would be the best way for me to secure a gutter system to my costco carport?

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

You're looking to harvest any of the playa's aquatic crustaceans, brought to life by the rain then blown into the wind?Lonesomebri wrote:Maybe I should start a new thread, or email FIGJAM directly, but what would be the best way for me to secure a gutter system to my costco carport?

That's one word I regret googling during breakfast.

Video games are giving kids unrealistic expectations on how many swords they can carry.

, but don't harm the red dragon that frequents the area from time to time. He and I have an agreement.

I have a repeated, uncontrollable urge to hit "like" on so many of these posts...
I'm kinda freakin' out, about the rain. I'm used to camping in rain. Just not in the desert. I was stuck at the gate a few years ago when it rained, and they closed it. Seven hours! It ain't no joke!
I have no idea, aside from my wellies and an umbrella, what else to do...
