Have you read the Survival Guide? You've got to anyway, of course, but it's got a starter checklist of stuff to have.

There is a list of registered 2013 Theme Camps here.
http://www.burningman.com/themecamps/th ... ml?yy=2013

You can use the search feature in that link to look for camps using keywords, and email the ones that look like a fit and tell them about yourself and why you like them. Not all of them will be recruiting, but some may be.

I found a camp using "Boston" as a keyword. (Automatic Subconscious.) And I found 20 hits using the word "games"; some of 'em might be of interest.

And there is also the 2013 Theme Camps forum:

Thanks Savannah!

Either way, count me in. I've been a burner since Hope 'n Fear .... kinda been a burner all my life, and Cargo Cult will be sexy number six!

Looking forward to clicking with you here, and I can't wait to see y'all in beautiful BRC. :D

I'm Brian, a virgin Burner. The timing is absolutely perfect for me to attend. Many things have come together in my life to finally make this happen after more than a few aborted attempts. I had a ticket broker try to sell me a ticket for $700.00, and I'm being told by fellow burners to stay away from such a price. I still need to get a ticket. Please point me in the right direction!!

Hi Brian! :D

Your friends are smart. Scalped tickets can be invalidated by the ticket team. And last year they were selling below face value in August. Might not happen again, but you never know.

This Friday at Noon Pacific time, registration for the OMG Last Chance Sale opens. Registration closes three days later on Monday August 5th and the sale itself takes place on the 7th at noon Pacific time. They'll go really fast.

http://tickets.burningman.com/

Craigslist and our own ticket forum include some other places where you might get lucky. People who reply first via email and PM when a ticket is offered tend do the best.

And make sure everyone you know knows that you're looking . . . not just your Burner friends, but acquaintances, relatives, co-workers, etc.

Hi I'm JT playa name fosforo -

I'm an educator in Boston. I work with children and I love thinking like one. My BFF Victoria White lives in Santa Monica and I have been traveling out west at least once a year to hang with her- usually to Desert Springs, LA, or Joshua tree. I love the desert. We are staying with folks at the BOUNCY BOUNCY CAMP. Looking forward to my first burn and participating in everything. Wondering when the band/ DJ/ music line up is going to be released?

Burningman is not a music festival. There is a woman ("Rockstar Librarian", I believe) who puts together a schedule of what djs are playing when in the big sound camps. It is compiled from what these camps release as their schedules. I have no idea of the accuracy. There are also all sorts of bar camps and live camps and whatever camps that will have other musical type events that you won't even know about until you are there. And Daft Punk has an annual set out by the trash fence. Thursday at 10:00, iirc.

Hi fosforo...

Ahem... Been a while since I've been in the welcome thread.

Try that again.

Hi fosforo! Welcome to eplaya. If you find a music line up list for a camp, it's probably not true. If you find a line up list for the event, it's definitely not true. There are false lists and false false lists. And then there are the lists that really matter and those are the ones you compile of cool stuff you saw while trying to find something else that you had on a list. The coolest shit finds you sometimes.

The playa has a way of getting you where you least expect it.

Hang out and get to know the place. There's a wealth of information here.

(Man, all these new faces make me feel happy!)

Hi I am Cass no Playa name as of yet:)

28 year old from Irvine CA born and raised in Moorpark CA. First timer-long time dreamer but finally making it happen. Stopped making excuses:)
I am a graphic designer/animator for kids math software games. I also volunteer at our local animal shelter... I have a soft spot in my heart for animals.
Most know me around these parts from my great spelling:) Sadly my brain is just wired strangely, but makes for a good laugh and memorable texts.
My boyfriend Beau (also Playa nameless atm) will be joining dear friends of ours in their little camp-Mojo Rising.
I am so excited I got to design a nice camp logo and am getting it placed on a nice big banner:)
I am thrilled about this journey and really owe a lot of gratitude and thanks to everyone here for your amazing advice and guidance. It has made this rather short planned trip possible for us both.

Welcome Cass and Beau. (I keep seeing a violin case and bow.) Short term planning can be the best. You won't have a big bunch of junk kicking around your camp like we all have. Anyway, Welcome!

Hello all - My name is Kirby from Kansas!

I found Burning Man shortly after my divorce 9 years ago. Every year I dream of going all summer long. I always talk myself out of it due to other obligations, etc. This year, I started dreaming a little late.....like less than a month ago. But alas, I got a ticket!

Luckily, I have saved everything that I have gotten through the years. I had a ticket 4 years ago, but lost my job in July so I sold it. It was a sad sad day, my friend!

I have the bike, the shoes, the sun screen, the tent, the bedding, the costumes, the hats, the shade structure, the coolers, the map, the directions, the drive, the determination.

Basically, I need a camp to join, gas, food, water, alcohol and something to give to all the cool friends I meet along the way!

Don't get me wrong, I am sure there are a million other things I am not aware of....yet!! Feel free to tell me what else I need to bring!

I would love to do an art piece or a mutant car....but that will have to wait for another trip!

Some ideas I have had...let me know if I am off base on any:

Bike - A chain with a lock. That way I can lock the tires together even if there is no place to actually "tie the bike up to."
Toliet Paper - Bringing extra just in case....
Bed - Air Mattress in my SUV? Is that unrealistic? Will it be a sauna?
Extra Shoes - In case of mud, etc.
Waste water bottle for brushing teeth.
Dust masks, goggles
Head lamp light
There are many other ideas....but this is a start!

Thanks for taking time to read my post,

Kirbo

Hi Kirby!

You've had years to prepare and your list is pretty good. The two main ones that jumped out to me were:
Bed - Air Mattress in my SUV? Is that unrealistic? Will it be a sauna?
Almost anything will become a sauna once the sun comes up, but a vehicle definitely will. And with all the getting in and out, your vehicle will be dusty beyond belief by the end of the week. This may be good or bad...

and
Extra Shoes - In case of mud, etc.
In the six times I've been to the playa, it's rained once for only a short while (but made awesome rainbows). The mud definitely forms and will accumulate very quickly on anything... ANYTHING! But it dries out pretty quickly too because the humidity is so low and you can knock the dried mud off. It's not like you'll have a pair of soggy, wet, mud-crusted elevator shoes for the rest of the event should it, by chance, rain. My point is you could make it on one pair, but I usually bring two... one pair of steel toe work boots for getting into projects, and then a simple pair of sandals. With that all possibilities are covered for me. You, however, might have an awesome pair of purple high heel mukluks... in that case you should bring them too.

I suspect you'll have a great time. It took me five tries to get out there and then one year it just feel into place, and exactly as it was supposed to. The community here on this board helped me through a rough divorce myself many years ago. Then once I got to the desert, the friends I confirmed just made my life even more rich and vibrant.

Let's see, what else...

TP, yes. You will need and appreciate extra toilet paper. I bring my own roll to the potties every time. The headlamp is pretty much required equipment. And lock up your bike. I wish you didn't have to but you do. Bummer...

Welcome to eplaya!

Yeah, you can lock the wheel to the body itself, not even tire to tire. This slows down most people enough. Most bike thieves aren't mechanics or sophisticates, they're tired drunks.
Toliet Paper - Bringing extra just in case....
1 ply-only, as you may know. (2-ply clogs the potties and risks the Sanitation folks thinking we're not worth the trouble.)
Bed - Air Mattress in my SUV? Is that unrealistic? Will it be a sauna?
Between 8am and 5pm, yes. So would a tent, though, unless shaded. People either shade their tents, or emerge from them at 8am and nap in the shade.

If you're going to sleep in your SUV, a real mattress is nice--if you have a spare one hanging around the house, and don't mind getting it dusty.

Welcome Kirby, (Both of my parents are from Kansas). You will be fine.......
Why join a camp unless you don't have all the equipment to survive alone.
Bring an air mattress. I move mine in and out of my van to sleep in the shade during the daytime.
Definitely bring some comfortable tennis shoes. If you need them, you'll be glad you did.
Bring more lights than you need! A flashlight can be duct taped to your bike. Grab a couple of bandannas and some expendable wash cloths. A travel mug and an unbreakable cup, (for shots and random drinks offered.) The cup should be attachable if possible.
You are well on your way, WELCOME!!

Looks like this could make for some pretty awesome playa conditions this year (assuming it doesn't pour again during the event).
