Broke down and bought a second 10x20 canopy to add to our sleeping in comfort. It's gonna add some labor at the start, but the added shade/rain shelter during the week will be great. Probably be putting it up late late Sunday night...the same time I'm throwing my own eplaya meet and greet at camp, y'all are invited, bring your gloves along with something for me to eat and drink. Namaste.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Got a proper thermos: well-insulated, wide mouth, grip, narrow enough for bike cup holder. The plan is for the ice to stay in there and carry a sealed container for refills. Much better than the crappy clear, barely insulated novelty cups I've used the past 3 years. At least that's the plan. Also got gatorade and lemonade powder, tuna pouches, relish, club crackers (great deal @ grocery outlet), horizon shelf stable choc milk to wash down the marshmallow vodka (heyo!), and assorted non-chocolate candy (skittles, paydays, etc.)
If you think you've overdone it, double it.
Re: One Item for BM a Day
oh carrie, You just convinced me to bring the lonesome bottle of peppermint schnapps. Wash THAT down with choco milk and it's a cold 'girl scout cookie'. (Don't drink too many or I'll have to rename it to 'asco'.)
I shopped for hours. Butane for my little stove, sardines and crackers, 2 empty baby bottles for my mouthwash and vinegar, a tiny sombrero, yellow zinc oxide, 2 swim noodles to put over my ropes, nice chamberpot, various trail mixes and other non-necessities. It felt good NOT to go to work today.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I had a hot coupon for a solar panel set up that was just burning through my pocket. So I decided to go get the damn thing. BUT, it's about the size of 1/3 of my cargo space. Silly rabbit. That's not going to happen. Re-thinking, but holding to the regular batteries option, or small rechargeable, smaller smaller, quieter quieter stereo. NO! I want big noise! I still think a fully charged 35? Amp hour battery and a small panel maybe will end up powering through the week. I have a 7 amp charge controller to put between the two. Tabling that for the moment.
Color changing bare LED's arived in the mail to swap out the boring white keychain lights for blinkie shwag. Last order of speaker parts and a cheap car pre-amp/equalizer arriving ups today. BIG WEEKEND for prep. cats chasing dogs funnel hat is coming along. postcards well imagined.

Read the survival guide. It's nearly identical to last year's - which I read many, many times - and yet I still learned a few things this time around.
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I have a bike friend that needed some cash and does repairs so she replaced my chain and put a kickstand on my cruiser, and she was going to possibly put a rear rack on it. But we found out there are many racks, it's the extenders that are trickier to find for my bike. It has some places to connect, but they are better suited for a fender. :-/ So it looks like I need to add a trip to the bike store to the list if I am to add the rear rack and try to rig some shade/night light glowy thing. If I don't get there, the bike is still better than last year. It's amazing how something so simple as a kickstand can make such a difference!Ratty wrote:One canister of propane for my lantern, One 25' roll of foil/bubble wrap for my windows, A BIKE RACK ! I had a garage sale today! Which relates mostly to burning man in the sense that I cleared out stuff to make room for more BM stuff! LOL

Danibel... a very handy thing for a kickstand on the Playa, is a medium sized jar lid (or anything rigid about the same size) to set on the ground to put the foot of the stand in. Keeps it from sinking into the sand. Handy if you can punch a hole in it for a short cord with a carabiner or something to clip it on the bike when it's not in use.danibel wrote:I have a bike friend that needed some cash and does repairs so she replaced my chain and put a kickstand on my cruiser, and she was going to possibly put a rear rack on it. Danibel, I ran into the same problem trying to put my rear rack on my cruiser. No eyelets to attach the top part of the rack to my frame.
They make racks that stick out from the seat post, but those will barely hold your pack let alone giving a small friend a lift.
Here's the solution I found: link to article
My hardware store called them nylon lined loop straps, and they were $.99 each. Let me put on the rack from my other bike no problem, and it feels really sturdy.
Hope that might help ya.

Thank you! I will hit a local store and check them out tomorrow. I want to make my bike more visible at night and the rear rack will make that a much easier.eLPea wrote:Danibel, I ran into the same problem trying to put my rear rack on my cruiser. My sister and I went shopping today....
Got the food shopping mostly done except for a
few odds and ends that we will pick up right before we leave.
Also picked up an airbed, a battery fan, 2 pack of propane tanks, toilet paper(1 ply, septic safe)
and paper towels.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
eLPea, that's how my rack attaches except the clamps aren't padded. I'll put some little piece of innertube between the clamp and frame. It's still a bitch making it fit.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Yeah, it was wicked frustrating trying to get the fit just right, trying the clips one way and the other, wriggling the arms of the rack... but eventually it all came together and seems quite sturdy.
Some old pack clips, a bike inner tube and a couple zip ties turned into a strap to hold whatever I'm hauling to the rack. No more oversized and heavy bike basket tipping over my bike!

Shopping lists complete.
Map of where to find shops complete.
To do: - print everything out, wash more clothes, pack second bag, confirm van pickup.
6 nights and we are out of here.
I've given up on a bunch of things I was going to do. Too bad!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Did the big commissary and Costco run. Eek. Need to make one last run next week for rolls and cookie dough.
Re: One Item for BM a Day
Not much done yesterday.... woke with flu symptoms and Ihad a late shift at work which I barely got through (it's been one hell of a week).
I added a roll of quarters to my list (for laundry doing to/fro) and printed out my list in the hopes of doing the bulk of the packing today.
If I'm up to it will visit BJ's (East Coast Costco competitor) for batteries and nuts.
Hopefully I'll be up to a garage sale or two.
After frantically searching and turning my garage inside out I finally realized the cargo liner I use as my gray water evaporator is not among the missing but actually in the cargo area of my vehicle (DUH!).
Added "paint" cargo liner to my todo list as the playa fades the blackness a bit.
ETA- OMFG I just realized one essential item is listing from my shopping list...
BACON...... How much would that have sucked?
Thanks CFM .....and welcome back.
