Make you fill up your gas tank BEFORE Hwy 447....

Make sure your ticket is handy, not packed somewhere.

Have a flashlight in your glove box, if you enter after dark you'll appreciate having it for the blue rooms.

Have something warm handy, the nights can be cold!

Make sure you have water/gatorade etc within reach, and make sure you start drinking more water once you hit 447. You can end up waiting at Gate for hours, make sure you have water & munchies available to get you through that.

DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL ON GATE ROAD! You are not in BRC, you can & will be ticketed, they have night-vision goggles. Wait until you pull into camp to crack that beer.

I'm giving this a nudge over to the Transportation board, since that's a better fit for preparation/getting there discussions.

Make sure all passengers have either ticket in hand or necessary will call paperwork. If arriving before the gates, make sure everyone has an early arrivals barcode valid for your planned date of arrival.

Use the portos in empire/gerlach... You never know how long you're going to be stuck in the gate line! Have a pee bottle with you.

Have some snacks available for the wait. One year all I had in reach was a huge can of stuffed grape leaves. They were good, but once you open the can you have to eat the whole thing or it'll be a nasty oily mess... I don't think I've had any of those since.

And please,before you get into your vehicle for the last leg, dress & accessorize yourself as if you were leaving your camp to wander the playa for an indefinite period.

That is in fact what you are going to do: hang out on playa for an indefinite period before you have a camp to shelter you. Hat, boots, belt, bag, lights, water, snack, first aid, whatever; whatever you usually take or think you might need. Wear it or keep it in easy reach.

Here's a trick to speed you along. You won't be driving highway speeds after this point..remove cargo netting, tarps, etc.. Have large containers ready to open and be inspected. Do this BEFORE you reach the lovely GATE people.

That does constitute alcohol abuse! Closed bottles/can to depts. are usually fine. Def ask on the way out... Cigarettes and closed bottles are welcome for the weeks following the end of the event, from what I've bee told.
