Do I need to worry about supply shortages in Cedarville?

I am coming from Eureka, CA and taking the Cedarville route to BM. Burner wisdom is to delay transporting water until the last supply stop at Cedarville for the purposes of keeping the hauling stress on the vehicle low (between my partner and I, we are looking at 300 lbs of water). Do I need to worry about markets in Cedarville being sold out of water by other burners before I can get there? The thought tempts me to just transport all of my water from home. We will probably go with buying individual gallon jugs.

Another question, should I expect prices to be seriously inflated?

The trick is to get there before all the other burners do, then you're guaranteed your water and other supplies.
The stores are all prepared for the onslaught of burners and you should not have a problem. Also, you might consider bringing a small amount of water with you when you start your trip, just for that radical self reliance thing.

Cedarville has one small grocery catering to travelers to the event and they and all the small businesses are well worth our support. You will pass through Alturas which is a larger town with slightly more options. The marginal cost of fuel for the weight is probably going to be about the cost of buying prepackaged water. Sometimes there is an opportunity to fill containers from a hose around Alturas and maybe Cedarville, and sometimes at the gas station if you are fueling.

If you're passing through Alturas as well, I would consider that a safer bet for last-minute supplies of almost any kind--although I'm told Cedarville has had 24-hour gas pumps (verify that; don't trust me). I do always see the BBQ place open and lively though. I'll bet there are a breadth of supplies in the daytime; its just passing through at night (which I always do) that gives me pause. I would always rather stop in Cedarville in the daytime on the way *back* than on the way down.

I haven't been to BRC since 2008, but from 2000 to 2008 I always got water in Alturas free from the general store out at the main intersection, across from the Chevron. They always had a hose out back for burners to fill up with.
I'm also of the mindset that waiting until the last option is risky... getting water in Alturas meant hauling an extra 800 pounds over Cedar Pass, but at least I knew I had it.
Ultra-conservative little Cedarville learned in the early 2000's that the freaky looking burners were friendly and bought lots of stuff, so they stock up and I believe they stay open a little later, but unless things have changed the whole town shuts down pretty early.

I always encourage people to support Gerlach businesses. But the entrance and exit from 447 from the North onto 34 is ridiculously easy and speedy, allowing skipping Gerlach backups entirely if you are fuelled and watered up.

Detouring in Gerlach adds a couple of hours to your trip at peak traffic, that's why. If you drive through Cedarville, CA on your way down, Gerlach, NV will be off to your right, and you have no official need to go through the tiny town.

But if you do have to pass through, sure--throw them all your business!

If I were coming from Reno, stopping in Gerlach would seem slightly less crazy because I'd have to pass through anyway.
