i've already introduced myself in "the Hello and Welcome..." thread - but i got there via direct link and didn't realize, that there is a whole sub-board.
so i hope, nobody is mad with me for repeating myself... since i have my very own thread now, i'll throw in some extra nonsense just for you


hossa! i'm viajero loco from hamburg (germany)

i'm dreaming about going to BRC since i saw this picture for the first time in my life:




it feels like 10 years ago but might be only 6

happily it's not only me! most of my friends have the same addiction. so every summer since 7 or 8 years a whole lot of us are joining an infamous parallel universe called fusion-festival in eastern germany. see for yourself, if u dare:

like burning man it startet very, very small and many, many years ago. like burning man it got very, very big. like burning man it has a political background. no meat, no ads, much less restrictions than any big festival in the world AND (unlike burning man) NO COPS - the festival area, an old soviet airfield, is owned by the fusion foundation, so the officers in blue and green are not allowed to join the party of 75.000 (!!!) "holiday-communists"! good for us, bad for them - and maybe thats one reason, why it's a very peacfull place. the nearby hospital is very sad about it, the ambulance ppl love it! they can party them self most of the time

but i wouldn't call myself viajero loco if i wouldn't dream about your dusty, hot and windy playa since almost for ever! (or at least since i saw those crazy pics many years ago).

this year we finally managed to organize everything in time! i'm bringing my very special and crazy friend from berlin and she's bringing all her cracy friends as well. so we are hitting the playa some time around sunday or monday with a 30ft RV packed with 5 crazy girls, me and one other guy... it's going to be legandary )

actually we would like to transform our big ass RV into a monstrous zombie-hunt-mobile mad max style. or at least paint it pink and walk arround Spring Breakers style i just have to make a final check with the insurance papers but i think stuff like that is covered so we should be OK....

Welcome! Make sure you've read your First Timers Guide & Survival Guide (links in my sig) - this is definitely a different type of event then the one you're used to.

A) Unless you own the RV, the rental company is not going to let you paint it. Please don't do it anyway, because that makes them less likely to rent to other Burners in the future. Returning your RV clean and in good shape is crucial for keeping companies friendly to us - there are already companies that won't rent to Burners due to their vehicles being returned in horrible condition.

B) You're not allowed to drive your RV (or any motorized vehicle) around. Once you are parked, the vehicle stays there until you leave. The Art Cars/ Mutant Vehicles you see driving around in videos all have to be approved & meet certain requirements, and those applications all had to be turned in months ago. It's way too late now.

Hello and welcome to ePlaya!

What you might want to do is get a big piece of canvas that you can use to cover up the side of the RV, a bunch of paint and brushes, and then paint the zombie hunt mutant vehicle (or spaceship, or anything else you'd like to imagine yourselves living in for the week). You could even invite some of the neighbors around to join in the fun as you realize your vision.

Actually, I don't mind a little of both.

If you're as crazy as you say make sure you bring plenty of Gatorade and pace yourselves until you see how the climate affects you, 'cause the desert will whip your ass if you're not careful. And wait 'til you're parked for the week at your campsite to crack open a beer, 'cause cops will ticket you for it.

but don't take my words too serious! i know about the mutant car requirements and that returning ur RV in pink might cause some trouble... although i like the idea...

and don't get me wrong! fusion is not BRC i know that as well. they just share some ideas... both do things differently and both want to make a difference. at least thats how i understand it and thats why there are so many local burns, right?!

anyway, come to fusion if u ever end up in germany during the end of june! don't be afraid! no cops doesn't mean no law enforcement! belive me, if some ppl don't respect the rules, fusion law will be inforced very quickly. just not by cops.... they tend to overreact sometimes


but let's not talk about fusion! its black rock city, we're heading for! i promise, we will read the survival, newbie and RV guide a third time before leaving and never ever move our RV the slightest inch, once we are parked

haha, it seems my reputation is already fucked up. well, that should be a good start for the real playa! it can only get better

but with all the "introducing" i totaly forgot about the real quetions i wanted to ask:

• is it allowed to spray clean grey water on the playa flor for dust reduction (i.e. melted ice water, water used for showering without soap, etc)
• will the rain last week reduce a lot of dust during the event?
• will things start to be sold out in reno before monday morning? we want to buy everything there and only got a reservation for our bikes so far.
• is it OK to use glitter, if fixed with hair spray?
• do walkie talkies (300 channels) work well or are all channels used a lot?
• can i use a digicam on a calm day or will the dust fuck it up even then?
• what works better? goggles with or without sun protection?
• can u marry for fun? (common on european festivals) or do only serious weddings take place? (very importand question!)
• is it really not allowed to drink alcohol in a vehicel even if the driver doesn't?
• should i leave my leather coat at home or wouldn't anybody care?
• how many hours to SF when we leave the morning after the temple burn? más o menos...

viajero, you can answer all those questions yourself with a little bit of time and effort (ie radical self reliance).

if you enter any keyword + eplaya into google, you can find what you need. for example: walkie talkies + eplaya will return the answer to your walkie talkie question. there is also a search function at the top right of the eplaya screen. do some searches, and if you really can't find something, then come back and ask.

Don't know if it's allowed, but please don't. Odds are it'll leave an inconvenient mud puddle, which in the worst case can turn into a pothole or speed bump next year.

Unlikely. The supermarkets are well prepared.

Do not bring glitter.

They will work for you and a couple of thousand people besides you. The channels are very busy.
Also, if you bring walkie talkies from Germany, they are likely to not have FCC licensing and are therefore illegal to use in the USA.

To add a little here... If there's a lot of moisture in the winter and then a freeze, that used to leave a really nice playa. IIRC that didn't work out the last time such conditions. The thought was that it's just too many people these days. I bet if you look up some of those blogs that were talking about the mud a couple of days ago, you'll find them talking about dust now.

It has been a "thing" at the burn. My first few years there was a drive through wedding chapel. For a year we had one in our village. It's up to you to find a partner (or partners) and negotiate what the other than legal wedding means to you all and what the duties and pleasures are.
In fact, Tom Servo and Tattoogoddess were playa married last year. They must have more insight.

You may if you want. Remember, deserts get cold at night. Especially with that long a trip you want to pack effectively.

Just to emphasize, after the kind of questions you're asking:
Take the survival guide as gospel. There is no exaggeration in it, there is no redundancy in it. Anything written in the survival guide is there for a reason. Leave no trace? It means literally to leave nothing behind - no oil stains, no spilled rice, no glitter, no feathers, no cigarette ash, nothing, nada, überhaupt nichts. Likewise, when it talks about law enforcement - you are in a different country, and different laws apply. Know those laws before you go! The officer won't care that posession of small amounts of pot will not be prosecuted in Hamburg or that the legal drinking age in Germany is 16 - know the local laws, know the traffic laws of NV. The things that the survival guide says that you need? This is the checklist of things you must have with you before you leave Reno.

We are bringing our (privately owned) RV and indeed are painting it. Actually, we're inviting graffiti artists to paint it. Maybe we'll see you there? It's an event called Graffiti our ride, Thursday afternoon, location will be added to the Directory at Playa Info once we camp.
