Camera Tip: Your First Photo
Your first photo should be a picture containing your contact information, a phone number, email, address, maybe a picture of you holding up that info. If the camera gets lost, the information on who to return it to is right there with the camera, or, if you drop the little chip, someone might be able to get your photos back to ya. A lot of cameras get lost every year. You might also make photocopies of everyone's ID to place in the vehicle, just in case you lose one of them also.
Re: Your First Photo
followed by a photo of:
- passport, if you're from out of country,
- your vehicle (with plate),
- your car keys,
- your camp,
- your camp address or nearest street signs at intersection

...photo of the cocktail you will give as a reward for the safe return of the camera.
On a serious note, my GF lost a camera in 2011 that had the address as the startup photo. The camera came back a month after the burn with extra photos of the playa (as well as a ton of pics of a dildo on or next to various people and art).
True story.

There's always 'fun' mixed in with the actual recommended.
You never know what last-minute stressed fluff bunny reads these and decides, 'well, if it's recommended'...
Noting scars and tattoos is recommended where identification may be required, like no smiling for driver's licenses and passports (it's hard to get a body to smile for identification). So posting "scars & tattoos" is not entirely "out of scope".

I forget those bunnies. *sigh* I suppose I cannot suggest they go line up on 447 and wait for the end.
(Sorry, Knowmad. You bear no resemblance to those bunnies.)

No, I was thinking of the typical fate of bunnies on 447.

Re: Camera Tip: Your First Photo
I made a minor modification to the subject to clarify it a bit.
I've done this every year, luckily I've never lost a camera (that is one of the reasons I only bring cheap point-and-shoots, however). Real name, camp & BRC address, email address, neatly written.

I put my Eplaya name, my email address, my Playa address and markers, Addresses and markers of one of my more obvious to find neighbours, times and addresses of places I know I'll be (ice shift, M&G, etc) and a great big THANK YOU.
It's a shitload of information, photo'd from a typed sheet (so no interpretation of my handwriting necessary).
I just hope that if lost, whoever finds it will know enough to zoom in to read it all!
The bold and big-fonted CAMERA OWNER INFORMATION at the top of it all should be obvious enough....

I have all my essential information tattooed on my willy so even if i don't dedicate a photo to that info, it's in 2/3s of the pictures anyway, just like my craigslist ads.

Re: Camera Tip: Your First Photo
If they have to zoom in that much, the info will be too blurry to read, I promise you.

No, no. It's very high res. I checked.
They just have to scroll a bit left-and-right to get all the info.
I tried to make it worth their while.... but now am reconsidering this offering as being pretty lame having "seen" Lonesomebri's camera contents.

Re: Camera Tip: Your First Photo
I was talking to Lonesomebri, Delle. Extreme zooming will be needed.

But they have to do it using only water from various cities around the world, otherwise it just isn't authentic enough for art.kiss-o-matic wrote:I hope whomever finds my lost cameras will be nice enough to develop the film... or even know how.

almost want to try that. "Lose" a cheap camera in centercamp and see if it turns up again and with what kind of pictures on it.offarock wrote:...photo of the cocktail you will give as a reward for the safe return of the camera.

It'll be like on CSI, where they have some grainy security camera shot, "I know there's something here. Can you enlarge this? Enlarge! More. Enlarge. I think I'm starting to see something... Can you enlarge it more?"delle wrote:Ha.
We'll need to see what HE has to say about that, then.....
tell you the truth, the only time I'm naked at the burn is when I'm in my private tent or I'm standing out in my shower in front of 50000 strangers, so I'm confident there are no compromising photos out there of my pertinent information. All the nude photos I take of myself are ass shots anyway.....

<bump>
I was going to post this to the guy who lost his camera at The Temple, but thought that this would be better. People always check out the pictures on a camera, and if the first one is your contact info, then it doesn't matter if it's in a case or not, your camera (if the person is honest to begin with) can be returned to you. This is excellent advice and should be common knowledge for everyone going to TTITD.

I don't have a smart phone, but I think this is possible: people can get locked out of the smart phone they find and then won't be able to look up your information. So, if you plan on carrying around your phone at the burn, change your locked screen background image to your contact info.
