Sorry to hear that, unjon. Scott tracked down his birth mother only after she died, but from what I understand, his meeting with his birth father and half-sibs, wasn't what he dreamed of.
Didn't go that badly, however.

love family stuff........so I recently heard, from a cousin I never knew I had. We shared a grandmother. Turns out I'm a shirt tail relative to the Oppenheimer, of "A bomb" fame! Not only that, but my grandfather, "stole/wooed" my grandmother from this cousins grandfather, brought her out here to NV, had my dad and uncle, left my grandmother, and went back and stole/wooed her daughter (my cousins mother) away, as well! He married his step daughter, after divorcing her mother!!
HAHAHAAAA, and this is the tip of the iceberg.
I'm also a direct descendant of William Brewster, some say a rabble rouser and in trouble for speaking against the king of England, at the time........hahahaaaaaa

I'm in the throws of "loading all the things".......dang a big truck with lots of room!!

I'd love to be able to tell Sara that that's a dreadful experience, and that

well, something.

But it's not my place... I hope she can come to some sort of peace with the experience...

It is so wonderful, the second place i turned in an emotional crisis is right here. not eplaya, the bar. clearly the first people i called were my kids, but then I needed to run around panicking for a while, thanks for pouring the drinks.

i am still a bit "oh fuck what am i going to do? whats going on why s this happening? AAAHHHHH" but randomly guessed drinks and comforting words from people i trust have really helped.

you guys are great!

Grai, keep breathing, things will be o.k. You get to choose who is in your life, although the facebook thing does have a sort of stalking quality doesn't it? Put your filters on friends only, and say "not right now, thanks." to your mom. "Late September" is what I'm saying now to things I have to attend to that aren't an emergency.

You could brag about being related to Frank Oppenheimer. Not as famous as J. Robert, but much cooler. IMHO.

Robert was a fine man .
Although I was only a young girl and did not know the depth of his life experience; His strength of character was clear.

Ah... brothers. Lotta brain on one family!

I'm falling two days behind for every day that goes by. But I have started loading Stuff into Millicent. Looks like I may have company in Millicent after all -- a couple from my Kinetic Racing group. They are bringing a most bizarre three-man tricycle, very successful in Kinetics, called Visualize Whirled Peas. It has whirling green tennis balls on top. They want to give rides. Read the back of your ticket.

yeah, I don't know ancestors mean a lot, but it's fun at times, to know about them. I got the biggest kick out of the Mayflower Brewter guy, I guess he was talking against the king and church and everything, a real rabble rouser! but, ended up spiritual leader of the group.

well anyway:

so, how will I look, going up I80, I'll have Mel and Turtleburps crosses in the back:

and then 15 sets of gallows, with Barbies and Kens, hanging from them.

"Twisting my own longneck"

Guess I'm a little late but there seemed to be some conversation seems to be about family.
My granddad fought against the allies in WWI. Shortly after the war he got married and my grandparents came to this country via Ellis Island.
WWII broke out and granddad wanted to renounce his citizenship and go back to Germany and fight for Hitler and the Nazis. My grandmother
wanted no part of it and refused to go back to Germany. They already had three kids, my dad being the oldest.
They all stayed and lived happily ever after. :D

My parents met on Ellis Island and couldn't even speak the same language.

And I bet your grandfather felt relieved in 1945, when it turned out (against his 1940 expectation) that he did not have to turn his coat a third time to once again join the winning side. (No offense intended to present company.)

Not really....anywhere between stateline and USA Pkwy.

If our paths cross around 11:15 or 11:30, stop for lunch.

I meant to say my granddad died around 1998...not 1989.

I know my dad spoke German until he started school in 1935. I don't know if he learned English at school, home, or both. I remember my dad and granddad speaking in German at times in the late 60s.
