Have a place to sleep, but no room for belongings!!! Advice?

I will be sleeping in an 8 person tent provided by another member of my campsite. It will be a 'cuddle tent' of sorts open to anyone else that wants to crash from our camp so there is really no room for my belongings. I was looking into getting a cheap 'toddler tent' to have nearby the will house all of my things. One that I can stake down and comes with sandbags, as well as a tarp to put underneath since it might potentially rain. Does anyone who knows what they are doing have any input/advice on this idea because I am CLUELESS when it comes to tents and shelter. If that's the worse Idea you have heard of TELL ME!

The idea is sound, but if just for your gear, perhaps a water-proof duffel-bag/stuff-sac (end folds over and rolls up to close), like those used for canoeing, would do the job? Stake that down in the shade of the 8-man tent.

But, if you do get a small barely two-man tent, low to the ground to shed wind, then if you need some space or alone time, or there's drama in the 8-man tent, you can cuddle up with your gear in that tent. You can likely setup such a tent in at least partial shade of that 8-man tent.

An 8 person tent sleeps 2-3 comfortably. You might consider buying a 4 person tent and storing your water containers in the 4 corners. You could even sleep in that 4 person tent if you wish---and just sneak over to the other tent to cuddle.

in the past i did an 8 person tent with 2 other people and our gear and it was comfortable, enough to move around and not feel like yer sleeping on top of eachother.


the idea of using a communal 'cuddle tent' as your main sleeping place ..sounds like a horrible one to me..

odds are youll end up with the same problem many people sharing RV's often do: itll turn in to the 'lets fuck' tent, and pretty soon .. youll be looking for some place else to sleep.

Big Tupperware or luggage flopped on the ground can be searched any time of day and night without warrant or cause.

Awesome feedback thanks! Decided to get my own tent. I had visions of terrible things that I may or may not be okay with. Figured I'd at least give myself the option of having a place to get away if need be. =) See you on the playa!!!

Nothing like getting stepped on at 0330 when the drunk campmate comes stumbling into the nest. While this sounds like a cool idea - "we all sleep together in harmony" the reality is that someone is going to fart in their sleep 45 times an hour, someone is going to need to piss every 20 minutes, and the whole tent is going to smell like a bird nest.

Buy a small tent of your own at the evil WalMart for 25 bucks - keep your stuff in it if the communal sleeping is as awesome as it sounds ont he surface, and then move in 2 seeps into a week long burn when it turns out it sucks...
