Some of my first explorations into punk music were through Peel Session recordings...

I don't know it seems like the evening crowd has been thin lately.

Time to make an appeal to the 4 hidden users and the unregistered users to come on in.

I think Badger is after more substantive discussions of what seems to be going wrong with the event and how can it be improved. I think he sees the threads like this one could be eroding the potential that e-playa is.

Are you kidding, this stuff is great. Sure the serious stuff is wonderfull, but rooms like this with burners being creatative fits really well with BM. It may not be what it was inteded to be, but how much great art is..?

I think he has conceded that social threads do serve a function but wants to minimize the goofy thread drift on substantive threads.

take a look at these threads
Bad burners at SF decom!
case studies

He has a point, as long as it doesn’t threaten the social threads like the Bar because I think they serve as a place people make connections and build community with those connections.

I understand where Badger comes from and I am one of the few people who silently sides with him often. This thread though I find as a great outlet. I have met several people because of this thread that I see as being good friends for a while. That to me contributes to community more than a lot of other threads. When I have met everyone of these new people in my life Burning Man was discussed and our experiences and this thread keeps proving to be a catalyst for amazing conversations even if they are not in this thread.

I think it is okay for threads like this one in the General Discussion area but in the OTHER areas, it should probably be avoided. I agree with the idea that there should be ONE area someplace that has a conversation that is kept on topic. Otherwise people will start staring at tree bark and commenting on the weirdness and stuff in the middle of a serious conversation. I can deal with that I think.

That i agree with wholeheartedly. But as with any community people need a place to let loose and be silly be it a virtual community or living.

I agree with you Jason, Badger is a good guy and is often on the mark, and I do think it would be a good idea to have a moderated thread or section of threads would be a good thing.

Barflies like Geekster have offered some of the best solutions for improving Burning man. So we are trying do our part.

A baby seal walks into a bar and sits down. "What can I get you?" asked the bartender.

"Anything but a Canadian Club" replied the seal.

The bartender says, "What is this, some kind of joke?"
