Do you have any pointers as to what kinds of mixers might be needed?
Thanks!

So are generic brands of soda frowned upon for mixers?

I would be happy to have it if I ran a bar, especially once I was low on mixers. Cola or Lemon-Lime especially. It gets diluted by the alcohol anyway.

What about powders. I assume it would be easier to bring an abundance of powder mixers (gatoraide, kool-aid, etc) to bars. Hopefully they would have water to mix them with and they could reuse the same jugs and cut down on jugs needing hauled out after the burn. Anyone have any ideas of good powder mixes?

Powders assume the bar has a jug to mix them in - some of them may not have that (they do all the mixing directly in the glass). Other than that I don't see any reason not to bring them - they don't take much space, you can always ask if the bar can use them. Think of what you'd want to drink, and go with powders along those lines - gatorade, not so much. Koolaid, lemonade, things like that, much better.

As for the question about powders, +1 to what Eric said.

It is also important to note that if a bar is mixing up powders to serve beverages, they need a Nevada Health permit (as they also do if they're cutting fresh fruit for mixers or doing anything else that constitutes food handling). The only bar stuff that doesn't are things that are ready to pour out of the bottle.

I am just going to bump this thread up to the top of the food and drink, because, well, it's a repeatable request.

Bring mixers! Juice, cans of tonic water, cranberry, cola, whatever you can spring for and haul in.

Ice is helpful, mixers are gold. Especially by Thursday night/ Friday. Artica doesn't run out of ice, but bars run out of mixers. I plan on hitting CostCo next week to help some of my favorite camps out, and I'm not delivering until midway through the week.

Lazy post. I got tired of reading. Let's just say I have $150 to spend on mixers. Let's just say they are sequestered until Thursday. Let's just say that they are the most convenient, but not necessarily the most economical. Let's just say they come in containers that are recyclable, easily flattened or in compostable/burnable containers, easy for baristas to manage, easy-peasy. Let's just say you are Jesus with $150 to spend thusly, WWJD? Inquiring minds want to know. In bullets.

Goya fruit nectars in a box or can.

Shelf stable, stackable, relatively cheap, refreshing in the heat.
Boxes and cans crush down for easy disposal.

I just confirmed with Winnemucca:
  • You do not require a permit for:
    • bar mixers from powder,
    • electrolyte drinks from powder,
    • coffee or tea served with non-dairy creamers.
  • Fruit slices or dairy at bars require a permit and safe food handling AND
    • must be served into drink by "staff",
    • must NOT be accessible by "customers" (i.e., no plates of fruit slices where people can grab one).
  • Ice must be from Nevada approved sources (grocery stores, ice suppliers, etc.), NOT made at home.
  • Today, August 16th, 2013, is the deadline for permit applications.

Can you hand someone a whole lime and a knife and let whatever happens, happen?

They have to use their own knife and cutting board, and cannot share the unused portions of lime.

Or at least that's my interpretation of the rules.

Not that I read them before interpreting. Just going off years old memory. So, pay no attention to my suggested solution.
