We weren't going to come this year but decided to come 2 weeks ago! We also convinced our friend Blair, who usually takes care of our cats while we're at BM, to come with us! We usually miss her bday because we're in Black Rock City. She's turning 29 on August 30th, but seeing as this is so last minute, and we are flying in from Montreal (and the seat of our pants), we really have nothing planned and don't exactly have a pimped out camp to pull off anything all that impressive.

the best birthday things ive seen on the playa often have to do with someone driving to reno/fernley midweek and getting something that probably wouldnt be easily found on playa:

such as a birthday cake.


itll cost you $20 per person in the car.. plus like 5 hours of time, but if this is a really awesome person that is a close friend, it should be worth it

no need for a pimped out camp..

something small and special can be all ya need.. a trip to reno/fernley can provide this

There are no parties on Friday. You've been, you know. They are not listed in the Notwhat, Notwhere & Notwhen which you get at gate and is online. And they are not listed in the Rockstar Librarian's guide to when not DJ's are playing. They cannot be found in placed camps that have applied and selected for not offering interactive events.

But just about any place you stop where there are people will be welcoming to someone on their birthday participating for the first time.

And one of the reasons we love virgins is the wonder in their eyes as they tell the stories of their experiences. So the best birthday gift you give could be recording your friend's experiences.

I SO second this. My Bday is last week of August, so this will be my 10th Bday on playa. I so much look forward to having experiences I could not have anywhere else. And I would be really bummed if I found someone wasted part of their burn time driving to Reno just to get some props for a party like I could have had anywhere else. Last year I spent my Bday working my fanny off for the Anubis burn. Those eyeballs burning in the wind sure beat cake candles.

Woo hoo, happy birthday to all you new years conceptions! I'll be turning 30 on the 30th and I could think of no better place to celebrate another year of life achieved. Even when I was an alone virgin myself and knew no one on the playa, it was exceptional! Maybe I was too shy but I wasn't initially comfortable sharing with people that it was my birthday (although my inner monologue was screaming it). I guess I felt like it was a form of soliciting. That being said... what you are doing or trying to do is awesome!

Short story>>> One year, I bumped into another group whose friends made her a playa birthday sash and were getting other rando's to celebrate with the birthday girl. At first, she seemed awkwardly accepting of the situation but as more people hopped from art car to art car, our party grew. By the end of the night there were four of us birthday burners, none of who knew each other the night before. It was very memorable, the kind gifts were appreciated (and unsolicited!), but none of that would have happened without the people (you) who were forward enough to shout, scream, and slur 'it's herrrrrr fuckin BIRTHDAYYYYY!' That was where the true celebration started. Plus, that damn sash.

I'd also suggest champagne. lots of it
