Open Camping Areas
Hi playa fam! Does anyone know which areas are designated as open camping? I heard there is open camping at 8:45 and A but I don't know how to confirm this to be true. Thanks!
Re: Open Camping Areas
TECHNICALLY after the gate opens 100% of the city is open for camping., reserved camping only applies before the gate opens for theme camps/art support camps/etc ..after the gate opens all bets are off.
the gate opens 6pm sunday.
good luck convincing /some/ people that this is the case.. but thats really THE WAY IT IS.

Re: Open Camping Areas
Everything shaded in blue on the map below has been set aside for registered camps. Lemur says if those camps aren't there once the gate opens, then you can camp there. I'm surprised to hear that, but if anybody gives you trouble, then just tell them to go talk to lemur. Right, lemur?

What Lemur said. Just remember you can't try to claim space within a camp, i.e. You can't go into Nectar Village and set up shop wherever you see fit.
You should talk to Chris or Doug in your camp about space...

Thanks so much. I have space planned for myself at Roller Disco, but two friends of mine just decided to go to their first burn this year and they are wondering about where to camp, so I'm just trying to get some info for them.

Re: Open Camping Areas
Actually, what lemer said isn't exactly true. A camp has to be "placed" before gate opens, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be built up at that point.

Re: Open Camping Areas
I think this changed a few years ago, jk. I'm darn near certain that you cannot hold space after the gate opens. If you can't get yourself to the burn and set yourself up like you filled out that questionnaire, then you aren't worthy of the spot...

Re: Open Camping Areas
Please note that I am solely referring to a space WITHIN a camp that is already in the process of setting. Otherwise anyone could walk into BDV on Sunday night and take up every free space eve through they are ALREADY setting up/set up.

Re: Open Camping Areas
of the 900 or so camps that are to be placed each year im guessing quite a few never show up..
surely some awesome spots available..
my guess is a lot of them get taken up by neighboring camps expanding and spreading out..
thats how id do it!

Re: Open Camping Areas
What I remember reading is that a Registered Theme Camp must be set up and ready for "business" when the event opens. That's the reason for Early Arrival passes.

I certainly could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

Re: Open Camping Areas
Well only speaking from experience of my camp - we usually have 70-100 members but are only granted 5 EA passes. Those 5 guys do a lot of the heavy work before the rest of us filter in Monday morning but it takes us to Tuesday to get the camp "ready for business"Elliot wrote:What I remember reading is that a Registered Theme Camp must be set up and ready for "business" when the event opens.
