tent with fully zipped meshes

Post by Aleksey » Mon Aug 19, 2013 3:30 am

Hi all,

I looked around and I couldn't really find any neither on these forums nor online. There are so many threads about covering them and solving dust problems in other ways though. Is that because these just don't exist?
I probably don't want to shell out for a springbar or a kodiak tent, just find one small and light enough that I can also take backpacking.
If you guys know of tents like that I would greatly appreciate a pointer.

Thank you in advance

The only tents you are probably going to find that are light enough to carry and still seal up pretty well are going to be 4 season backpacking tents. I have an ALPS that closes up pretty tight and has two doors and vestibules on both sides of the Fly. The two man that I have is pretty roomy, they also have a three man size. Vents in the top and ends can be zipped shut.

Good luck.

Try looking into something similar to this.

I'm taking this one out there for the first time but I do have confidence it will hold up.
Trying to get no mesh tents here in Miami is like searching for snow.

Find a tent with as little mesh as possible on top...that's where most of the dust is going to sift through. Take the time to cut some blanket material to fit the mesh and stitch it to the mesh on the outside. You'll still get some breathability thru the blanket, but the sifting dust will be restricted to a great degree. As for the side mesh, just keep them zipped up most of the time.

It'll take some time, but some good tunes and a cold beer...and yer done!

ive got like 4 square foot of mesh on the back of my tent and maybe 2 sq foot in the front

i secured a cover to the inside of my tent using pieces of velcro safety pinned to the inside of the tent, with the other side of velcro safety pinned to the other side of a cut out piece of thebed bedsheet cover.

..its not perfectly sealed.. it breaths and during the hot part of the day i can open it up.

with the rainfly things are mostly OK.

i wouldnt say that having a totally sealed up 4 person tent is required

Spring clamps from a hardware store can also be used to adhere material to your mesh. They're inexpensive and have many uses!

Word!!!

My 4 season has zipped covers on all screens and did not let any dust in. (The only dust was what I brought in on myself)
