Heck. I'll drink anything with a camel swizzle stick in it.
Almost anything.
that's legitimately potable.
to my squeamish standards...
Um, cool swizzle stick.
(Now "swizzle"'s an interesting word. Wonder where it came from...)

The dangling camel would be a good name for a bar. I don't think it looks too fun for the little green camel.
wikipedia says this:
"The original swizzle sticks were created in the 1700s at a rum plantation in the West Indies. They were used to stir up Bermudian cocktails called Rum Swizzles and were made from the branch of a plant." "Hey, the sugar's all at the bottom, hand me a spoon!" "No spoons, mon, all we got is this here plant." "O.K. break me off a branch."
Where swizzle came from is still a mystery for now.

I remember my Dad coming home from a business trip. He'd say to me, hey, "I brought you a gift!" And he'd whip out a damn swizzle stick. Bastard.

Holy criminy. I'm tahhhrd. 20 hours and counting. But Millicent is pretty much loaded.
This I swear on my mother's future ashes: I will take notes this year, and have a fairly well complete list by midyear. An hour ago I darn near forgot to load the air compressor. Imagine pumping up a couple hundred bicycle tires by hand.
But I'm now scratching more items off the list I have than I'm adding to it.
Took Millicent for a spin to make sure I had the transmission fluid filled right. (Must be checked when warm.) She even runs better with the new synthetic fluid. $250.00 well spent. Yep, $50 a gallon. ("You can pay me now, or....)
Bought fishing line and a curved sewing needle today. So guess what I'm doing the next couple hours. (Like I couldn't have done it six months ago.) Marching band uniform jacket.

To re-open old wounds...
I figured it out. (Or a good part of it at least.) It's not long ago, within living memory, when a people in wheelchairs were put in institutions to rot--body and mind. By nice people who were helping. Every time someone else decides I need help and gives it to me, without my asking or indicating in some way, it is a little push in the direction of the institution. The jail, whatever it's name is. I will not go. Not ever. And it's not up to me to be nice about it, it's up to them to educate themselves about it.
I will stand on my own two feet whenever possible.

But is there any chance you could quit pissing and moaning about it all the time? Lucid information like the above is surely more productive?

Fuck you. If I was able to get to the lucid information before I woudl have. But I was too angry. I can go back to plonking you real easy. But I have lot of friends on this board. As I'm working through this tremendously huge issue, it helps to talk to them, or to vent steam. This is not easy. I don't really have a road map. I have to live it 24 hours a day.Elliot wrote: But is there any chance you could quit pissing and moaning about it all the time?

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Sorry Elliot... I am with fishy on this one. It is a Huge Issue and it is not going to go away ever. We are the freinds.. the interactive soundboard. The place to vent, doodle, speak listen and drop puzzle pieces. Yes lucid information is much better. But sometimes it is so hard to come by. I knew about the institutions somewhere in the back of my mind. It is not a pleasant thing to talk about in our pc world. An ugly part of history. But sometimes I am a bit myopic too. Can't see the forest for the trees, so to speak. And so I wallow in my own pithy little problems and forget that I have the advantage of distance and can maybe see another piece of the puzzle for someone else that is not so readily apparent from where they stand.
Elliot, this little tirade is not really aimed at you. Rather it is for all of us. After all, we are all in this together are we not?
And yeah... fuck me too. Maybe I am just rubbing salt in the wound. I dunno...

Grai, you have to swim it this year, it is mandatory. One flight, one drive, and one swim. Problem is, you must swim the Pacific route, none of this easy "across the pond" Atlantic for you. Uphill all the way.

I stress because the Land Yacht is HEAVY, and my truck/camper/trailer/boat combo loaded with supplies for BRC is over 21,000 pounds, and there's a few mountain passes to go over.
I sometimes wonder WTF I'd do if I lived really far away (I'm in Seattle about 700 miles from BRC).
And I think I know the answer... loooong road trip.
I wouldn't fly in unless I was overseas, you just can't bring enough stuff!

Being BM Sun. Leave early Sat. and sleepover 40 miles out..
The lady across the driveway asked my daughter if I drank.. She sees me in the yard without the canes..I staggered and fell like that when I was drunk.. Then I sobered up and found it wasn't the booze..

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
I am definitely trying to be the second, Knowmad.
Today's tasks involve inane things like deciding whether or not I need a bowl or a mug more (space issues with my suitcase), if I should risk going with one pair of boots (the risk being every year something has happened to my primary pair, just how much water DO I need because surrounding myself with 10-12 2 gallon containers from WalMart (assuming they have that many) seems tacky, am I going to Ranger this year or not?
Drinking would help. Drinking always helps me make good decisions.

Good morning. You too, Fishy. Rarely have I so desperately regretted an utterance.
I'm with Capt. G. on the prep stress. My rig is even heavier. And I keep realizing I must bring something or other, lest the entire 40 x 38 shade structure cannot be erected. Late yesterday I could not find the bolts that attach it to the bus. It's an utter mystery why they are not with the other related hardware. Now I must round up a wide selection of such bolts and washers to make sure I have what I will need.
But it is soooooo worth the effort!
Clothes, toiletries and such... I will probably grab while the engine warms up in less than eight hours.
To Davis today, to pick up more Stuff from campmates. Then up the Sierras tomorrow morning. Where's my Xanax?
