Just how bad is traffic on sunday?

This will be my 4th burn....but my first time staying through the burn on saturday. I have gone with people in the past who always left on saturday morning because they said the traffic after the burn is "unbearable". I'm only worried because of running out of gas. I will certainly be filling up at the last possible stop and all...but who knows how long the wait will be to get in let alone on the way out. So, is it really that bad?

theyve introduced 'pulsing' on the way out, where theyll release a certain amount of cars in groups, leaving the groups further back parked.. allowing you to turn your car off. (for like 45mins to an hour ....may be dif this year, but in the past thats how it was, as i recall it)

it is not like the slow crawl of the entry anymore


last year reports were the best exodus yet.


id still plan for 4-5 hours

(keep in mind it may be roughly 4-5 miles from your camp in the city to the pavement.. and at 5mph.. (the speed limit) ..and no traffic whatsoever.. itll still take about an hour to get out)

hmmm.....4-5 hours in my non air-conditioned van and could be 100 + degrees out there. bummer.

who knows how long it will take.. not me.

but plan for a long time, hope for something less..


it may be different this year.. it may be 'good'.. whatever it is.. youll want to be prepared just as you would be in camp

Isn't the big exodus Monday morning?

i believe it goes in phases

after the man burn..

after the temple burn..

and again in the mornings maybe around 10 or so sunday/monday


judging this on previous years and just seeing the traffic streaming out from around 6o'clock where I camp

Actually, if you brink drinks (non-alcoholic) and snacks to share, you can get out of your vehicle on each pulse stop and have a little party. Really helps to pass the time.

I forget the exact numbers they quoted, but shortly before the man burn, the city was below 50k, maybe around 48k... By Monday AM it almost looked like pre-event! Who knows... Exodus was a breeze from what I heard of Sun/Mon folks. Tuesday was a clear shot!

Monday around 2PM was a nonstop drive directly onto the highway.

Last years exodus was very light--no waiting on Sunday or Monday. (From what I hear.) Don't know what the factors that went into that, and how much things will change this year.
Bruno owns the gas station as well, iifc.
