Question on Entry

Post by Darb » Sun Aug 18, 2013 8:06 pm

Howdy yall,

This year will be my friends and my first year at Burning Man.

My friends are driving up from Colorado, but im flying into San Francisco and taking the bus up.

QUESTION : I have my brother's ticket, and was wondering if i would be able to hang out at the gate while i wait for him? Or maybe leave it at will call?
Hopefully i can just hang around since we all wanted to enter together for our first time.

Thanks for the help and see yall on the playa!

There is no place to hang out at gate!!!

It would be equal to hanging out in the middle of a chinese intersection.

There is no waiting at the gate. Maybe you should arrange to meet in Reno or Fernley.

I'm taking the Burner Express bus from San Francisco, while my brother is driving from Colorado.

Not sure if the bus can drop me off somewhere, and even if that is the case, their car is full. Any suggestions?

I'm guessing by saying your friends are driving you also mean your brother....

You cannot abandon people at the gate... You will have to enter and head to greeters station, where he won't be able to meet you. I doubt you can leave it at Will Call... That would cause all kids of headaches if it went missing... I could be wrong though, never saw anything saying that was an option.

Your best bet is to meet him at Bruno's in Gerlach. The buses are stopping somewhere along the route, if you booked one of the options that did... Otherwise there is always the USPS and FedEx.

Good luck.

Take a different bus
Have your brother and friends wait near the Reno turnoff to 447 and follow the bus
Find a rideshare and share information with your brother
Take Megabus to Reno and meet your brother there, then use rideshare
Find a way to Reno, rent a room, leave the ticket in hotel room and give your brother info/list him as a guest, take bus or use rideshare....

... I mean you should try thinking of ways to solve your problem... I came up with a few, you came up with nothing so far???

when is your brother leaving Colorado? You still may have time to overnight it to him.
I kind of get the feeling you are waiting for someone to say an exception will be made in this case. Don't count on it. It's crazy at Gate, and it's crazy at will call. NO pedestrians. If you have some other burner friends who are driving, maybe they can make the handoff in Nixon or Wadsworth, or Fernley, some places where parking and waiting are little more feasible than Gerlach.

Well the only thing i came up with was fed ex, just have not taken the time to do it yet.

Was just checking to see if their was another / easy way about this.

Thanks for you suggestions, but sounds like a hassle. I guess I will just have to send it overnight delivery or something.

Thanks again

you can send packages overnight via united states postal service Priority Mail Express.

they will even provide the envelope!...... and, if you take the option, deliver on sundays.

there are more options for delivery with usps, such as signature confirmation, restricted delivery.. and other things.

the options add up.. but, it may be worth it!

(while ya may not be able to replace a ticket.. insurance might be good for recouping cost.. all priority mail express things are insured for $100.. adding up to $500 is around $13)

...it might cost $20-35 to get it shipped with some of the options but!! it may be worth it.

for some odd reason id be more trusting of USPS for this than fedex.

Overnight FedEx/UPS.

The cost far outweighs the possible nightmare.

The bus can not drop you off the gate, and you can not hang out and wait for him at the gate. What you can do is take the bus to Black Rock City. When you're at the will call box office picking up your tickets, you can leave the ticket for him at will call, make sure you use his name as it would appear on his driver's license. If it's a physical ticket, send it to him overnight, now, so he has it in plenty of time before he leaves.

FedEx is pretty easy. Show up, fill out label, pay, done.

Be sure to note the ticket number, just in case.

Best of luck.

Even if you were allowed to wait at the gate, he would likely never find you (don't count on cell phones to work). The entire gate area is in insanity mode for the first 24 hours or so.

As someone who runs a mail order business, when it absolutely has to get there and be on time - I use UPS or FEDEX. They actually have real guarantees on ovenight shipments.

The postal service is a bit weak in that department, although you might get a nice "I'm sorry" if it doesn't arrive on time. They are notoriously bad at paying off insurance claims as well.

He'll have to be creative.
They have windows.

However, there were several buses when I was in D lot.

Are you in D lot now? Buses have an express lane so there is no stopping until will call/gate...
