fuuuck!
tonight is my last 'regular' full night of sleep before leaving on my journey thursday morning at like 5am
packing, repacking, trying out different bags.. ieeee
since i moved to a crappier town my flight requires a plane change, so im fearing losing my shit.. so im doing a carry-on bag the first time
have all kinds of shit in it.. none of which is (so i believe) unallowed or close to it.. but im sure the scanner guy is gonna be like 'oh crap whats all that' and i will get a nice thourough check of all my crap (which is in maybe a dozen ziplock bags)
so i will have a bunch of stuff with me in my carryon, enough of my gear to survive if they lose my checked bag with my tent and clothes in it...
worst case scenerio.. they lose my clothes, my tent and my hydration bag... and i replace it in reno (hopefully!)
oh yeah and i still didnt finish my grocery list
oh man i hope ive done everything
fer fucks sake.. why do i even do this burning man thing?

I still have no idea what's going on with my ticket, if it's waiting at will call or not. Nobody from ticket support is responding.
Every ounce of insecurity and WHY AM I DOING THIS AGAIN is shredding all plans into piles of self-doubt.
I hate all my clothes. I'm scared I won't take enough food. I have no idea how I'm going to fit 11 2-gallon water containers into the ride I found.

Take a deeeep breath..
Re: Last minute panic thread
Also panicking because I listed "me, suitcase, cooler, backpack" as what I'll have for the ride in. I don't think I included water supply. Which as of now means, oh, 40+ of these stupid things

or 20+ of these

...that'll take more room than me and my stuff, grumblegrumblepanicpanic.

So much water? 2 gallons a day, for 11 days = 22...lemur wrote:why so much water?
Ha ha ha ha ha!!!! MATH IS HARD. I believe the internet would say "wut" or perhaps "ermegerd."
Ok, so still, 10+ of those 2-gallons is a lot to pack in and out for me (if I can do it at all).
I looked to see if Artica ice is drinkable, it is? But you need just over 8lbs to make a gallon. So...yeah. Thank you, so, SO much, for pointing out the eye-scorchingly obviously flaw in my math.

Re: Last minute panic thread
This whole food thing? It has me COMPLETELY freaked out. Just figuring out what to put on my list is a headache. I've perused several of the threads on ePlaya that are all about food, and they're extremely helpful, as per usual. But it is still freaking me out. I mean, I'm not very good at grocery shopping (or cooking) to begin with. Seriously, a regular habit of mine is to go grocery shopping and buy a bunch of stuff, then get home and realize I haven't really bought anything people typically eat for dinner. Ai yi yi...
Re: Last minute panic thread
Here's how I do it for camping: I go aisle-by-aisle and look at everything. Well, there's two parts. First, I sit down with a pen and paper and close my eyes and go through each day. I wake up...what do I want for breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? I jot down what comes to mind. Then I go to the store and just kind of go up and down the aisles asking myself, "How about this?"littlebird wrote:This whole food thing? It has me COMPLETELY freaked out. Not time effective. But food shopping for Burning Man bears little-to-no resemblance to how I shop and eat IRL. My top tip is probably don't get anything that you wouldn't normally eat. And splurge on a treat or two, for those down days.

Re: Last minute panic thread
I've got two cases of Odwalla bars (score at $3.79 a case at Grocery Outlet). When in doubt, canned fruit, energy bars, string cheese & beef jerky.
I panicked big time this morning/afternoon, but an hour spent getting waxed calmed me a bit. But I'm fucking TIRED right now and leaving tomorrow. But I just keep telling myself, ya leave when ya leave. If I don't expect to hit the Sands by 6pm, give em a call. Packing methodically now. And wondering what I'm forgetting. And wondering where the hell I put my sarongs after the last burn, and where the bag from K-mart is with my carabinerable cup. Maybe I'll find it if I clean off my bed

I would think 16 gallons is more than enough for 11 days unless you plan on going swimming or something. =pC.f.M. wrote:So much water? 2 gallons a day, for 11 days = 22...lemur wrote:why so much water?

I always bring over 100 gallons and consider that barely adequate!

Ooo. A few more gallons and you might be able to make an actual WAVE to crash against your boat.

I don't fucking care. What is done is done, what needs to be done will be done or it won't matter in a couple days.
That said, fuck, I've got a lot to do and am not doing it on schedule.

Re: Last minute panic thread
Is this an appropriate thread for this?
Also, how do early crews find out if the Gate road is closed? Do we all just huddle in Gerlach until they let us in?
I mean, the weather reports look fine by the time the Gate opens, but for those of us showing up between now and Saturday...

I got stuck at closed gate Double Rainbow year. 7 hours, in addition to usual gate nonsense. It sucked so bad. Be prepared with snacks, booze and a pee jug.Cactus Pete wrote:Is this an appropriate thread for this?

Re: Last minute panic thread
I don't get anything at that link.
Anyway, the last minute will be at 3:59 PM on saturday, so that is when the panic is scheduled to take place.

Still no idea if I have a ticket waiting for me at Will Call or not. Panic isn't even the word.
Re: Last minute panic thread
There has to be a way.
What about the office in Gerlach?
Maybe they can contact someone.
Think backdoors, side door, windows, gotta be a way.

Must we? I've asked if there's any point, and nobody knows - or at least has responded. I'm told the playa stacks like mad onto the bottom of your shoes, so I'm thinking barefoot would be the way to go - but I can go barefoot, I know not everybody can.
AND I DON'T HAVE ROOM FOR MY WELLIES OR TARPS OR MY PEE JUG OR MY RANGER CLOTHES SO AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH
Re: Last minute panic thread
We have such a complicated bunch of stuff a whole trailer full, and being our first trip, I have been panicking because I just know we will forget some essential widget or something needed to set up our project or shade structure or whatever. But its all loaded up and ready to go now so no more panic.
Now there is just a sense of dread.... after all this, what if some mechanical problem or illness or family gets sick or trouble while still in cell phone range? Dammit, must stop worrying about things I have no control over.
I will be so glad to get there, out of cell phone range, set up camp, and then.... well I don't know what happens then. And that's what I'm looking foreword to.

OKAY! Really nice list of cooler-less food ideas, list of places to buy shit in Reno, taxi booked, hotel receipts obtained, Burner Express upgraded to large luggage just in case, boots seem to be holding up well. Slightly less panicked! But must elwire up fishermans vest with safety pins or something!
