Body painting questions for the uninitiated!!

Hi there

I want to do body paint this year, and would really love to get some Maori (natives to New Zealand) designs going. I was hoping for the torso, arms and face to get art-ed up.

So how do you do it? It seems like it would be hard to do to yourself (but I am fairly artistic.. I could certainly do it on paper) , but I know I don't want my campmates having a go at it!!

What do you use for the paint.. ? Something dust resistant!

How detailed can it get? Am I off base thinking about face spirals and stuff?

Will it make it too hard to do if I don't shave my bodyhair, or can I just go with a short clipper? Will that ruin the effect?

Hey! Did you learn anything about body painting in general? I want to paint myself next year. I'd love to learn from your experiences.

Make sure you do not have an allergic reaction to the paint. A lot of the paint is latex base. Make sure you are not allergic. Trust me on this. I have the bills from my Dermatologist.

Latex allergies can be deadly. Surgical gloves and condoms made from Latril? or something else are one result. I have no idea how that works on paint. Now all we need is the formula for milk body paint.

cosmetic grade airbrush paint. You can buy it online. Make sure you use cosmetic grade. It stays on really well. Make sure you also get mutiple paint pots. It sucks to have to clean everything in between each color.

Cosmetic grade airbrush paint you say? Tell me more. Can you use it with reglar brushes? If it's for the air brush it's runny hu? Would you call it messy. Can you blend it or is it like latex that is flat and sucks. How hard is it to get off. More, tell me more!

I've never tried it with regular brushes. It is runny, but it dries fast once it's on your body. Check out the web site for more info.

We have only used it with stencils, so my knowledge of it is somewhat limited.

I've tried the laytex too, but not on the playa. It seemed to not peel off so well. It was sort of crumbly. Maybe There weren't enough layers painted on, I don't know. They also recommend shaving prior to using it. It does provide thicker coverage than the airbrush body paint.

Captain Goddammit, the sheep worked as you said for texture but the gerbils were way fast and slippery. And I will not even go into the cat disaster. This will be the last set of painting tips I take from you. Thank You for your effort though.

Wearing a kilt and riding by the body paint camp, I could not resist going blue. Didn't care at the time about removing it, part of giving myself over to the event.

On Sunday, Carcus Wash camp was sure generous letting me pass through several times, barely made a dent in getting back to my original skin tones... Still a tiny bit on my toe cuticles. What was that stuff, anyway?
