Girlfriend is arriving Wednesday eve. Ill be picking her up in Reno.

Been watching the ticket markets closely the last few years and haven't decided whether I should wait this one out. Looks to me like there is no glut like last year, it may only get more difficult to find a ticket. On the other hand I recall tickets being given free last year in line. Would be nice to save the money )

Was looking for an intelligent analysis of the market or any historical insights. Would have been trivial last year. Ill take the harshness as an indicator there will not be such a glut this year. She still hasn't committed so I am having to consider risk mitigation.

Seeing as the Gate opens in 5 days & ticket prices still haven't fallen, I'd say there's no glut. Will there be people stuck with tickets next week? Probably. Will you have the luck of being the person there when they are, if they even go all the way to the Gate? Probably not.

This is the first time I've seen ticket prices stay at face value this late in the game - they usually start dropping in early August. I was sure they'd plummet after the OMG sale, they didn't.

I wouldn't bet on a ticket sitting around waiting for you...

Whatever you do, don't bet on a free ticket in gate line. If you show up at gate one ticket short, you will be sent back to Reno. There is no waiting room for people waiting for miracle tickets.

You should just stay in Reno, but I would rather you force her to ride with you to the gate and try to get her ticket there. Karma will provide.

I'm honestly curious how you would have reacted if the folks here on eplaya had sung a different tune. If you'd heard things like "there will be a glut; there's always a glut," and "oh, sure, I've heard several stories of free tickets given out in line," and "I saw a person with a sign selling a ticket cheap at Keystone," how would that have changed your plan?

What if you did go as far as the line at gate but didn't get a ticket in the end? Would you come back raging about how your burn and your relationship are ruined, all because you heeded speculation from some keyboard cowboys? These boards are full of messages where people post (bad) ideas, looking for confirmation that they can sneak in their dog/go while 8.5 months pregnant/hand out free drugs if they call it candy. I'm not saying this is necessarily the case, but you should evaluate whether you weren't unconciously looking for somebody else's approval.

Anyway, all I needed was some intelligent comments on the historical market. Thanks Eric. Now I can tell her she needs to make up her mind today otherwise seriously risk the decision being made for her.

Either way, I'd try to sort out things beforehand. You really, really don't want to show up at gate one ticket short, it will be the opposite of fun for everyone involved. Do you really want to risk your relationship to save a little money?

Hers another option for you. There are scalpers in Gerlach. Come without a ticket for the girl HOPING to get a free or dirt cheap ticket and it may happen. If not, your driving back to Gerlach and buying a ticket for 600 bucks from the dude in the shitty little truck that has the sign that says "Tickets"

so while I can guarantee there is a ticket in Gerlach but you wont like the price.
