Hey everyone!
This year my gf and I are attending Burning man and the US for the first time, all the way from Australia! (In Sanfran atm, flying to Reno this Arvo).
I have reserved an SUV with Alamos which will be picked up on Saturday. However with everything I've read about them possibly cancelling the reservation if they find out we are going to Burning man, keeps getting me worried.
I know people say you must lie and say you are not going to burning man, but it seems so obvious.
Does anyone have any tips upon pick up? Has anyone had any experience with Alamo in Reno before?
Thanks in advance!!!

Ask the rental people alot about the Reno casinos, ask if it's possible to drive to Yosemite down highway 395, ask why there are so many stinking hippies in town, and if there is somewhere you can go to avoid them. Asking questions is not lying. Don't make it obvious you are going to the dust. Do not wear your furry coat and glitter glasses into the rental agency.

you dont need to talk to them at all, rent the car onine using the "pick up at" or choose and go and you only see the security guard at the end of the parking lot.
If you need to go to the counter, just rent the car. It is on them to ask you where your going, if they do, tell them your going to visit friends. Nothing wrong with being vague.

and hope the suv doesn't have satellite tracking on it.........I don't know about Alamo but some rental companies dont want their cars driven out of state/off road and have ways to keep track where they are

Hey guys! Thanks for the replies! I guess the good thing is that my gf and I don't really look like the type that would go to burning man
. I arrived in Reno last night and gonna go explore and prep what I can before picking up the car on Sat. In my head I thought majority of people would be all going Burning man, but I guess I was wrong. Makes me less worried.
Also about the GPS tracking. I heard that it was illegal to GPS track now?

I dont think it's illegal and technically when you sign the contract you acknowledge you will follow their rules (i.e. no off road driving) But being that BM will have it's own post office, street names, ect, maybe it's not really considered "off roading"???
I'm not familiar with all car rental companies but just dont go with payless http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-604461.html

Don't split hairs like that. It's a great way to justify yourself into a ticket.bruce_w wrote:I dont think it's illegal and technically when you sign the contract you acknowledge you will follow their rules (i.e. no off road driving) But being that BM will have it's own post office, street names, ect, maybe it's not really considered "off roading"???
A great many car rental places specifically will not rent to people going to the burn. Even if there's no gps, there may be agents walking through, recording license plate #s and reporting back to the agency.
