Stolen license, can't rent car! Need a ride SF->Reno! Mon.mo

Post by Minalis » Thu Aug 22, 2013 10:02 am

My driver's license was stolen 3 days before my flight to SF  :!: :!:
I'm from Greece and I can't get a new one in time and the greek temporary paper is not good in the US.

So now I really need a ride from SF to Reno (I got a ride to BM from Reno) very early Monday morning!
Anyone???

You'll be meeting a rare BM species, a greek chick! :)

You can still fly without a license, but you will be taken aside and asked a few extra questions. This happens often when people are on vacation and their wallet is stolen. Yes, you can still fly!

She will need a valid passport in order to fly from Greece to the United States. I think she's more concerned about not being able to rent a car to drive from SF to Reno. However, there are busing options available.

Or she could catch Amtrak in Emeryville, or wherever the California Zephyr starts.

I'm not sure why I saw that as flying. I may be in full melt down mode!

Actually, you need id for amtrak. The dog (greyhound) doesn't require them, iirc, or if they haven't changed in the interim.

I have rented with just an ID before, but my state issued ID looks exactly like my drivers license. And I am a frequent renter so they have my info already on file.

Take the bus from SF to Reno. It was $29 the last time I took it, and they should have one running early in the morning.

You can hop the BART to the bus station, and should be good to go.

Get off the BART at Embarcadero, turn south on Beale Street and then left on Folsom.

With the transbay terminal being rebuilt, I wouldn't trust anything without calling and making sure this is right. (The website didn't say that this was a temporary site. Not sure that they would keep up anything old, but this is definitely a good time to let your fingers do the walking...)
