Burning Man Weather Forecast Center
Hey all, I'm Kevin, the guy who runs the Burning Man Weather Forecast Center on Facebook and Online. I am doing this without being paid by Burning Man because I was approached by a few people a week back asking for a better forecast system since weather is dangerous out there sometimes ... so I decided to help ... I have not burned, but my planned first burn is 2014. So I decided to go ahead and use my weather forecast knowledge to help you out.
Back story:
On August 16th I put a forecast out for thunderstorms to hit the area between Monday and Thursday. This was considered a medium range forecast. On my page I got people posting links of like weather.com and other sources that said no rain would hit. This is usually wheat I get as the "new guy" ... Storms hit both Tuesday and Wednesday, with a chance today as well ... The forecast in the medium range ended out to be correct. So more people are joining the Facebook page to get complete updates for traveling and camping out on the playa ... Trust is building in the forecasts I provide.
This is a resource that is a must have so here are the links to where you'll find my stuff ...
Burning Man Weather Forecast Center On Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Burning- ... 1134713378
Burning Man Weather Forecast Center Online - http://www.theweatherspace.com/burning- ... st-center/
Next year I hope to develop the page to even more people and for Burning Man.com to list my site instead of what they have now as what they have now is not accurate for medium range preparation or travel needs ...
Have a good one, and see ya later ,
Kevin

Kevin, wow, this is really cool! I've never been comfortable reading doppler maps, so I really appreciate how you draw those arrows and stars and give an explanation. Also cool to see the Gerlach webcam images pasted in. You seem to be sensitive to the practical information we're most interested in as burners: will the wind be bad enough to knock-over my half-finished art? How long will it take the playa to dry and become driveable? Driving conditions for those coming in from several hours in all directoins, etc.
Thanks for doing this - hope to see you in the dust next year!

I'm worried about the smoke. I live in south lake tahoe, here the smoke is so bad you can't even go outdoors. I hear it's the same or worse in reno/carson.
We're buying hepa filtered masks just in case (my asthma has been acting up), wondering how bad the smoke is on the playa.

Here in Fernley Nevada, 80 miles south of BRC, the smoke is real bad. Even had ash on my truck from the fires.

Hi there!
We're in Carson City and the smoke is really bad
My boyfriend was riding around yesterday on his bike and it made him get really sick! How is it in Black Rock City, I heard the smoke is moving North! Any ideas how to prepare to face the smoke on the Playa?
See you all soon!!

A little hazy, but I could see the mountains clearly earlier.

Re: Burning Man Weather Forecast Center
Kevin, your forecast is for gusty winds. Do you have a time of day? Morning, afternoon, all day?
