Re: Last minute panic thread
I know some of the costume camps would have no problem with that, but would safety pins do the trick in the meantime?

Probably would! A bit tacky, and maybe a slight disservice to the ladies, but hey... gotta keep warm, right?BoyScoutGirl wrote:I know some of the costume camps would have no problem with that, but would safety pins do the trick in the meantime?

Re: Last minute panic thread
Well the panic is calming down, turning into resignation that what I've got is what I've got.
I'm leaving this evening. Gas prices? Shit I hope there IS enough gas on the west coast to drive this thing that far.

I say donate as-is.kiss-o-matic wrote:I might need a little adhoc sewing job done - a few buttons, but the button holes (or loops I should say) are out of my skill set. Is it acceptable to assume someone at a costume tent can help? Not that it'd be necessary but I'll be making a donation of some garb I don't need.
- and I just noticed they need button holes? Yeah, just cut a hole or donate as is.
Unless it's awesome khaki stuff, she says, noting your location, in which case I'll go ahead and take it.

Wow. I think I might actually be ready. I've got everything I need in organized piles. Just gotta finish a load of laundry, maybe buy a couple of watch batteries (for an LED loop thing), and stuff said piles into my bag. Then once I hit reno I"ve got a list of shopping places/addresses, one or two things I need, and lots of coolerless food ideas. Also, noteworthy playa addresses, Burner Express instructions (check your email, fellow passengers)....yeah. I think this'll work. That was rambly!

I was VERY intent on taking pictures this year, but something is wrong with my camera - it just has an error message for memory cards. And I am sad. I was really looking forward to taking pictures, this year.

I just checked Caltrans and don't see anything about closures on 80 due to wildfires. So I hope tomorrow's (Friday's) trip to Reno from San Jose will be uneventful. Some late night lane closure stuff around Sacramento for construction, but we'll be travelling in the daytime. I think everything's packed now. My checklist is almost all checked off. So excited!!! Just need to get to SLEEP tonight.

Look under "menu" and see if there's a way to "format memory card" there. That will usually get rid of compatibility issues - it will also delete any images already on the cards.C.f.M. wrote:I was VERY intent on taking pictures this year, but something is wrong with my camera - it just has an error message for memory cards. I went to Radio Shack (shack indeed) and bought a brand new card, thinking that might solve the problem. Still got the "Memory Card Error" message. I scrolled through the menus, and didn't see anything that sounded related. Set all settings back to factory/original. Nuthin'.Eric wrote:Look under "menu" and see if there's a way to "format memory card" there. I thought I was the only one! I'm pretty sure my gas is going to be shut off by the time I get back to my apartment post-burn. Eh, who needs to cook food on a stove or in an oven anyway? At least my water heater is electric, because cold showers are the worst.Captain Goddammit wrote:This year's prep, which has been going on for months, has cost me way too much to pay any bills!!!C.f.M. wrote:Don't forget to pay any bills that'll be due while you're gone...

Re: Last minute panic thread
I just read a news article that said the sinkhole on 80 at Truckee forced closure of the number one (leftmost) lane on both east and west bound sides. I'll find out for sure in a few hours. Currently in west Sacramento picking up my Rideshare, heading for Reno shortly.

Re: Last minute panic thread
The sinkhole appears to be in the median new construction area in Truckee at Donner Pass Road. There was a large area covered by two metal plates on the ground.
No lanes were closed this afternoon thru Truckee. All clear!!

Re: Last minute panic thread
Huge relief!!!!!
I made it over Cedar Pass!! And Mt. Hood!
A few times I was all the way down to 1st gear (not counting "granny low) and very nearly boiled it - with the heater on to help cool the thing as much as possible - but I made it!!
I'm in Cedarville now, after breakfast, on to the gate!
I was really worried the land yacht would be on the side of the road somewhere instead of BRC.
I really want to put a Cummins diesel in my old GMC duallie. In its day, the gas 454 was king but for what I'm doing with it, I'm really pushin' it.
But here I am, I can't believe it
