Minor earthquake shook the Truckee Meadows.

Post by Thecatman » Tue Aug 27, 2013 8:51 pm

Monday Aug 26, 20013 at about 5:50pm a minor earthquake measuring 4.2 hit. It centered N of Spanish Springs near Sugarloaf Peak. The area had dozens of micro quakes last year and over the last few weeks. Was claimed to have been felt in Nevada City and Susanville, CA to the west and Lovelock to the east. I didn't feel here near Dayton. Anybody on the playa feel it?
Minor damage in the Sparks area. Mostly cracks near doorways and windows, things falling from shelves etc.

Is there any Fracking in the area?

It's a bit of a secret that Fracking can trigger small quakes.

No, there's no fracking nearby. The Spanish Springs Valley fault runs through the area.

Would you feel it on the playa with the thump thump of the art cars going by? ;) I wonder.

Good test to see if fracking would trigger an earthquakes there?
Maybe the sounds systems trigger mini-quakes and keep a bigger one from building up? :)

Gee, I hope that, in the event of an earthquake, the people in BRC can find some open spaces to exit to so that they won't get injured from falling debris -- or at least that their accommodations meet earthquake building codes.

I think that most will be OK as long as their whiskey bottles don't dance off the table.
