Re: Live from Burning Man!
Hey Canoe thanks for the detailed outside-source weather, I've been showing that to people at my and select other camps, that's better info than I was sourcing up.
If I get stuck a few days, so be it. I've got my camper and plenty of supplies. The truck is 4 wheel drive but I know better than to try to move it if the playa gets wet, all the 4wd will do in Black Rock is bury me further!

Re: Live from Burning Man!
Looks like Exodus could be clear of rain for several hours.
The line to the west drifted west a little. At the Lat. of Gerlach, the radar is currently clear over to California and down to Carson City.
Heavy lightening in that line directly west of Gerlach.
For anyone heading north, there's a small concentrated patch of lightening within that line to the north west of BRC at the Washoe-Humboldt border. The heavy lightening will be going through there.
At the same Lat. as Wadsworth, that line is showing light to moderate lightening, despite the heavy rainfall.
There's some odd light rain, intermittent & scattered, lining up from below Carson City.

Re: Live from Burning Man!
I got extra gas and water from people departing, I'm set for several days in case of a rain-in, but I'm still skeptical that's gonna happen anyway.
I wasn't able to upload video, when I get home I'll post some from last night at about 4 AM at Robot Heart and Hookah Dome. The bass thundering across the playa had to be experienced first hand to comprehend, but I'll put up what I can.

If that line had slid east a bit and been running through BRC, no one would have got out before Tuesday, likely Wednesday...

Re: Live from Burning Man!
The Temple burn was awesome, I was glad to find that BRC is still respectful of it... the whole city was quiet. All the art cars dimmed or shut off their lights and turned off their sound systems, the crowd was quiet, barely even any talking. It's an unusual thing to be in a crowd this size that quiet. Especially BRC, where noise and light is the order of the day.
It's cool how the Saturday Man burn and Sunday Temple burn are polar opposites; the Man burn is pandemonium, everyone cranking up everything they've got - and they've got a lot!! Fire, lasers, BIG sound, it's full-tilt. Then Sunday, it's dark and quiet, the loudest sound is the crackling fire of the Temple.
I broke a wheel on the Land Yacht... the tire was fine but the wheel cracked and broke at the hub. I had a spare, of course

Re: Live from Burning Man!
Radar showing that western line at a patch entering Nevada lower down, with one of the radars showing rain touched the NW corner of Pershing, and the other radar showing scattered showers to the SE of BRC, confirmed by Radar Sat..
Huge lightening in that western line for a fair length at the Lat. of Reno.
They're giving 50% for scattered thunderstorms at Winnemucca today & tonight, but I can't see the justification of that from the images, so it must be within their models, which were pretty good at forecasting that western line.
And here I just had thunder announce a downpour, so 3,000 miles away I've got to power down.

Current on-playa conditions are whiteout, with a few raindrops. But fuck it I'm not in a hurry!

Re: Live from Burning Man!
The latest from the playa as of 6:00 PM Monday: sunny with some clouds, very warm, dry, a little windy. Overall not bad.

Re: Live from Burning Man!
Scattered patch that hit NW Pershing was on radar for only a half hour. BRC not in the path of anything currently dumping, but scattered patches like that one could form at anytime.
wow - dense IR that is hitting Winnemucca formed out of nearly nothing in six hours. Lots of lightening in it's lower end.

Hey, Captain. Thanks for the daily updates. Had a knee replacement this year and couldn't make it so have enjoyed your stories. Great effort on your vehicle. I see you helped another Northwesterner on the Playa. Good for you. Hope you don't get bogged down in the mud, and have a safe trip home.

Well here it is, Tuesday morning on the playa. The skies are partly cloudy, overall it's pretty nice out. Totally dry, no rain.
Knowmad did make it back for dinner, we had BBQ ribs and potatoes.

Dammitt get back to work so my old tired retired ass can lough at you...
Re: Live from Burning Man!
Winnemucca is the western edge of what's getting rain and lightening. That should let up this morning.
The odd scattering going through just to your east.
Forecast stands http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 8210449219
but I'm afraid upwind of you is looking pretty boring. No mud for you.

Re: Live from Burning Man!
wtf
Winnemuca is getting hit again, rain & lightening, and again by something that developed out of nowhere. What is it about air going north to them from 38N.
Scattered light to medium showers skimming the east side of the BRD, with some lightening.

Wow, you're still around. I'd been watching the webcam broadcast to see if I'd find you wandering by. Only saw the bigger yacht show up (the one you posted a photo of with the playa cruiser in front of)...Captain Goddammit wrote:I haven't been to the playa since '08.
I haven't managed to make it back since my inaugural burn in '04, but between the divorce in 05 and several other things it took a while to get life back on track. Throw in the economic downturn and yadda...
I guess the big difference for me now is the Playa is now only 13 hours away or so instead of 24+. That drive from Iowa was killer. Looks like the drive from Seattle is much less cumbersome.
Hope all is well, and if you're going in '14 I'll probably see you there.

Still around, and still on the playa!
Live from Burning Man... today was the nicest day yet, and tonight is nice and warm, low dust.
We're having ribs and PBR right now.
Today Elliott drove the Land Yacht. I wonder if he'll get used to playa vehicles you don't have to pedal!

along with rain, tons of lightening showing to your SE
all sorts of scattered rain up through Pershing
showed all around BRC, but the radar snaps didn't show any right on it
did you really dodge rain again?
(Winnemucca's rain drifted over to Elko, still coming up from south)
