Re: Worst part of 2013?
Monday during the day I used the urinal in one of the portapotties (I know - TMI). As I exited, out of habit, I closed the lid even though I only used the urinal. Apparently during the night someone had squatted but apparently didn't realize the lid was closed. Big pile of shit behind the lid

You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

Worst part? missing my dog. everything else was pretty damn amazing!
Re: Worst part of 2013?
This was my first year so I realize this isn't a new revelation to many of you
So most nights I roamed the playa by bike with my new and old friends with carefully planned and executed neural adjustments. It was beautiful and perfect in all ways. Except for that god damned cheese grater on my nerves "music" that was blared from 5 different sound camps and mutant vehicles.
If I was king, there would be some quiet hours when the music was turned way down on the playa. Even if you somehow like that shit, you couldn't possibly enjoy it when it's mixed with several other similar wretched versions of the same angry crapola.
I'm not so incompetent that I couldn't tune it out but the playa at night with the stars alone is beautiful and the music makes it less so.

Not enough time to experience everthing BRC had to offer.
Days need to be 30 hours long during burning man week.

If you're gonna be a burner, that goddammed "music" is something you'll have to get used to. BRC is no place to go if quiet is what you want!
Although, I noticed that the outer streets around 5 to 7 o'clock were eerily quiet... I'd suggest camping there.
Facts of life in Black Rock City: there are LOUD sound camps, there are generators running, there are people with bullhorns, there are mutant vehicles with bright lights and loud sound systems - some beyond mind blowing - there are parties, and of course there is blowing dust everywhere.
There's art... beautiful art, creative art, vulgar art, even just plain shitty art. There are ridiculously attractive people running around naked, and ugly ones too.
It's not a mellow place.
I kinda like the mix of all the loud sound - it's like the pulse of the city. And you won't hear bass anywhere like you do in BRC!

Our neighborhood was fine. I just wanted some time on the night playa without it. But that's as bad as it got for me.

The days could each be a week long and you wouldn't experience everything there is to offer. The important thing is to enjoy where you are at the time.fernley1 wrote:Not enough time to experience everthing BRC had to offer.

Got a cold. 36 hours of doom. Still, in some ways better than my virgin year. More comfortable in camp. Good friendships. Now I know what summer camp was like for the pretty and popular girls.

(((((((((((((((((VultureChow))))))))))))))) I loved having you in camp this year and you made a huge contribution to everyone's Burn!!! Thank you!!!
Worst part was definitely being told to bug out early because of the rain, and actually doing it.

Not all burners have the pleasure of driving around and have wheels at there disposal to drive over to some camp to enjoy a wine and steak dinner.
I find it Ironic how an Art-car drivers can call a person a Dark turd whom is laying and enjoying the playa star lite sky their way. So whom is more right or has more rights to enjoy the playa. The somewhat unsafe dark turd burner or the elitest art car owner. I just love how the privileged art-car owner can name call the un-privilege dark turd , I just suppose that's how art cars roll.
Yes, I too, fail to understand why a music camp would not turn down (say 20%-50% or so) the music during earlier daylight hours which seems to be the usual sleep hours on the playa simply out of simple respect.

Oh spare us your petty acrimony. You're not earning yourself any sympathy here.Odie wrote:Not all burners have the pleasure of driving around and have wheels at there disposal to drive over to some camp to enjoy a wine and steak dinner.
Cut the shit. If you're laying out in the playa while unlit you are indeed a darktard and deserve every bit of ridicule slung your way. FULL STOP.I find it Ironic how an Art-car drivers can call a person a Dark turd whom is laying and enjoying the playa star lite sky their way. So whom is more right or has more rights to enjoy the playa. The somewhat unsafe dark turd burner or the elitest art car owner. Take a moment from your bitter and jealous refrain to consider the safety of both yourself and the other people around you by lighting yourself up. If you want to enjoy the night sky without any lights, go camp in the mountains alone. Oh, and just FYI: it's not just the "privileged" art car drivers who suffer darktards. It's often people on bikes that are at most risk crashing into, or avoiding at the last moment, those IDIOTS who don't properly light themselves. So spare us your sanctimonious bullshit and light yourself up like a good citizen.
Because it's a music camp. Because this is Burning Man. Move your hippie ass out to some other location away from these designated sound camps, or don't attend at all if it's just too much for you to handle. I'd rather hear the sound camps than the bitching of some damn darktard hippie by any means.Yes, I too, fail to understand why a music camp would not turn down (say 20%-50% or so) the music during earlier daylight hours which seems to be the usual sleep hours on the playa simply out of simple respect.

Darkwads get hit by bicycles, art-cars and emergency vehicles.Odie wrote:... Art-car drivers can call a person a Dark turd whom is laying and enjoying the playa star lite sky their way. So whom is more right or has more rights to enjoy the playa. ...
What right do you have to risk injuring a bike rider, or to cause delay to an emergency vehicle going to assist someone? Or is your playa-name Speed-bump, soon to be written on Temple?
Want to enjoy the sky? Go out to the deep playa and set your light down somewhere close above your head. You won't see it but others will - maybe...

Re: Worst part of 2013?
Being a first timer, I enjoyed all the music mixed at night.
Also, if I really wanted to lay out on the playa at night, I would go over to the walk in camp area to enjoy the night sky.

Re: Worst part of 2013?
I think the pulsing of arrivals Sunday morning that resulted in a 10 hour commute from the snoopy rock to my camp was pretty horrific. But other than that it was all sweet on the inside, one of the best burns ever!

Re: Worst part of 2013?
Blown driver side front tire 1 mile from Wadsworth exit, AAA put spare doughnut tire on. Then driving to Fernley to discover the tire store closed for Labor day weekend, then driving back to Reno to discover tire store closed for the weekend. Good part was finding a disability motel room with a bathtub. I stayed 2 nights till Monday, bought 2 tires and missed all the Monday traffic, getting in very early Tuesday. I was thoroughly rested, fed and relaxed to start my burn, a lovely week full of hugs and kisses...
