Income for a Camp Boss

Post by itaintwhatitseems » Tue Sep 03, 2013 8:07 pm

Much has been spoken about the decommodification of BM in the news but there is almost no info of what seems like everyone and their mother making a buck off BM. With some "for profit" camps approaching 1000 people (example: [removed] has around 600 and [removed] with all it's off shoots probably more) what kind of income are these camp operators generating at this "decommodified" event??

Anyone with some inside numbers care to shed some light on this?? btw It doesn't mean anyone is a hypocrite just b/c your camp boss is making $50-100k off this......it just means he gets a lot of LOVE.

I've moved this to Philosophy, since the issue is neither year-specific nor necessarily camp specific.

must.keep.cool... There may be camps out there where that is the case, but the two examples you give are NOT it.
Is it Page Two yet?

come on, try thinking a little harder then........you just know right now as I type there are camp operators counting their cash in Reno, laughing all the way to the bank.

btw did Larry make his $1mm bucks this year yet......it would be a shame if the BIGGEST camp operator didn't LOL

I gotta get over to the GSR tonight - I wonder if there are any camp bosses still there with their counter culture a/c RV's sipping martinis by the pool.

Oh gee I forgot.....thanks to BM GSR jacked their rates up this week to like $200 per night (when I checked last week anyway)..........hows the party like over there?

There are threads galore discussing Larry and his millions. Not talking about that - just that you named two camps that don't fit in your 'for profit' category. I'm sure there are others that do.

We dont need to get to page 2 on this topic. Can someone PLEASE tell the newspapers to stop giving BM coverage or at the very least STOP referring to this event as "counter cultural." There is almost NOTHING counter cultural about BM anymore - except for maybe the burner with the 20 ft RV countering the yuppie with the 30 footer......and on and on.

The counter cultural aspect died about 15 years ago when RV driving yuppies took over.

Another prime example would be the FAILED bike share program.......gee, big surprise that most people dont want to SHARE anything. LOL Maybe if everyone pays their CAMP BOSSES a little extra next year they can regulate the bike program better than the borg did?

If I offer to pay you to go away would this be commodification? Or would you be cool with it.

Bidding starts at a dollar. Who is with me?
