Im amazed

Post by tatonka » Tue Sep 03, 2013 10:53 pm

was stunned at the size of the playa , was so impressed all my plans of taking pics blew out the window. I forgot to take pics , was soaking up everything in, I just forgot to take many. My friend who was not going to take pics , took 1000's of pics and vids. He filled 4 memory cards :)
Had a good time at the M&G meeting everyone here :) Didnt get to talk to everyone as much as I wanted , Martiena was prettier than her pic , Ratty and I may have alot in common , both of us like making stuff out of nothing , got to ride in Cpt Goddammits art car, met Simon out on the playa when the man burned .
2 young ladies asked me to dance with them , and got alot of winks and blown kisses and hugs from many nice people . Two guys said I was stunning and asked to take my pic at thier studio, I went and signed a release and he took 3 pics of me, lenscraft.com was his site . He sent me the release form so far , cant wait to see the others. Several other people asked to take my pic thru out the week , as Mark Twain once said " I can live for two months on a good compliment." well I can live for a year , so many people had great comments on my gear :)
Figjam cooler worked well , I charged my Kirkland battery and my friends napa batt , and he bought a 140. marine batt ,for the cooler. I hooked up mine on mon. and ran it 1hr , ran it for 2 on tues and than 5 on wed , then 4 hrs a day or more until sun night when I took it down, all on my kirkland batt. It read over 12 volts all week and I took it home and put it back in my car and it started it :)
but my friend wasted over a 100 on the deep cycle :(
weather was great , no sunburn at all . Would ride my bike to center camp and lock it and walk everywhere . Got lots of swag and offers of drinks , got a free snow cone out on the playa :)
I brought just enough food , didnt eat much , drank alot of water , didnt bring enough beer , aloe gel was great for dried out skin , ear plugs worked well for sleeping . Didnt need any warm clothes but will still bring them next year cause yea never know. One small propane tank boiled water for me all week , had a 7.5 day cooler which worked and a dry ice cooler which held extra ice .
Did not like entry 4 hours and leaving 6.5 hrs :(

I was amazed seeing all the large soundcamps on 2 and 10. Went to both streets each of the first 3 nights.
I starting noticing that the people on each street were different.
10 had a more party feel, people dressed up more, with more lights.
2 had a darker feel, people not as dressed up, less lights on, lots chilling, just digging the music.
Both side still had a lot in common, lots of people, lots of dancing, but I thought the small differences were interesting.

We started calling 2 street the dark side.

the sheer size of it was the most amazing thing.

and not just the size of the playa (omg), but the size of the art, the cars, the camps, the stages, the man...EVERYTHING is HUGE. was mindblowing.

I think I kept repeating "What. The. Fuck....?" when I first entered the playa the first night.

I'm amazed at how naturally and seemlessly cats like tatonka take to it all, a perfect fit. Born for each other. Amazed that a term like newbie or burgin or whatever could ever be used to describe people like that. Amazed at all the people, the creativity, craziness, camaraderie... Always amazed of the desert, the playa, the sky, the vast space.

@Tatonka - exactly! You have voiced my thoughts clearly. It took me 4 days to get my boundaries to figure out where I was and how to get around to where I was going! So many things to see and do, I was at first overwhelmed and then couldn't get enough. I missed so much, but, did so much more! Didn't take near the photos I thought I would take, yet I filled up 3 memory cards! Amazed that I felt so 'at home' Amazed that it took me so long to get here! Can't wait to go back again for more!

ALL of the weather stations say it's about 60 degrees in the late mornings this week. It appears we got the best of it and took the nice weather home with us.

I loved meeting all of you , I will try to talk more next year . Had to leave early to get something to settle my gut , not sure what was swirling around in there :( I got back to camp and had a nutrition shake and it seem to settle . I really needed 2 weeks ....1 to soak it all in , and another to jump in .
