y'know.........this is the place. Of the virtual world, this island of friendship is consistent. As I decompress, it's an anchor, a refuge.
Thanks all, for this. It's the people that make it. Many of us have met in person, hugged and laughed. Some not yet, but no less cherished.
It's a great bunch of characters here, and at times, therapeutic.

So true and well spoken, YG. I so share your feeling. So right Triken and Lucky. Maybe that's the idea of spreading the Burner spirit into Defaultia. I know it is in my life and in subtle ways somehow touches those around me. Some more than others, but it is not a crusade. It is just being. Like Elliot's bikes.

Quite so. As I recall from my Automobile Museum Docent days, Swedish iron ore has a lot of Vanadium in it. The Studebaker Brothers -- and other stage-coach and conestoga-wagon builders -- used the resulting steel for wheel rims. Later, Henry Ford used it for select automobile parts.

There's one guy here who went to BRC once, in 2010, as a DJ.
At least there ONE person I can talk about it with. I've learned not to even try with anyone else, just shut up about it.
You can't begin to make them understand.

My first day back, my boss called me out on a staff call with all the other engineers, "Welcome back...tell us all about it". While I was giving a scattered and sanitized 30 second account, another engineer IM'd me and explained that he grew up in the area, used to work EMS at the event until 2007, and that if I hadn't I should try the ravioli at Bruno's.

I didn't get into it with him, and murder him with a fresh word avalanche, but I'm pretty sure it saved my sanity.

So sorry that I missed the M&G (for the second year in a row). This burn was certainly a challenging one for us what with the kids' yurts destroyed by the storms pre-entry, hubby who I drove to Reno for emergency surgery saturday before opening, kids' car died during exodus and we had to rent a truck and car trailer in Reno, etc....

But with all that said, the kindness and friendship shown us was so incredibly touching that it is something I will never forget. Thanks to Figjam and Delle and Maryanimal for coming over to visit. I really couldn't leave my hubby in camp as he was restricted to the RV and the area of our outdoor floor cloth after we returned from his surgery in Reno. All the neighbors and kids in camp next door helped me break down and pack our camp.

I am so grateful for all of you - you made my burn.......

Please tell that lovely man of yours that I have NOT misplaced the worries I lifted from him before his nap.

In fact, in my quest to return them in a better order, I enlisted the help of almost everyone I met thereafter, asking for "Solutions to potentially everything" (as he did not elucidate upon handing them over, and I seem to have misplaced my convertor).

Unfortunately, I also seem to have misplaced the notebook in which the answers were noted. It holds everything from "Whiskey" to a 2-page scribbled mass explaining string theory, which got all the more scribbled while the donor tried to ensure I'd captured the essence to a point sufficient to re-explain.

A shit ton of head-nodding and "aha's" were involved. I think I may actually have understood for a fraction of a second....

Anyhow, please do let him know that his worries are fine and having fun learning french in Quebec now.

And give both of yourselves a tender hug. It was awesome meeting you. I wish I could have seen you again, but you were neither at home nor at greeters when I looked again.

The string theory answer was one of my favorites. It took about a half-hour of concentrated explaining with a penmanship that included flourish and aplomb interspersed with some really stellar jabbing when a point was not to be taken lightly. Many sips of alcohol were drunk (the evidence of which lies in the form of a little spit on the page as the laughter set in).

The pages following it were drawings of a "wheel system" filled in by a bashful woman who had been watching us at the bar and skirted me outside and around the corner to inform me of her own solution in her own much quieter way. Quieter, but oh, how her eyes danced!!!

Hello everyone! How's your day? Today, here, it rained sheets and buckets! Washed all the playa dust off the outside of my van.

Now to tackle the inside. Still having playa dreams.

just checking in and sending love to all my bar peeps.
Cleanup is switching gears into restoration (clean up is getting all things off the playa, Resto is fixing all the moops and scars) Ive been told we will be here untill the end of the month. DPW is set up in Gerlach and we have been made qutie comfortable. we feel the love, I see all the moop. on that note, big fuck you to Opulant temple and crew, they owe a case of Jamison, at least or a case of socks.

Hey Knowmad... sorry, I think I mooped the two big white lamps that were on the roof of the Land Yacht... They were bolted to a piece of aluminum stock, and that was screwed to a thin piece of plywood. I unstrapped them then forgot to stow them, I doubt they even made it off the playa.
