VC - today's the first day I have seen this post. How it escaped me I have no idea! I think this is one of the greatest ideas I've seen in a while! So excited to see it. You ROCK! Thanks for staying up late to get it done. I cannot wait to see some pics.VultureChow wrote:Sooooooo......
I gave up on Saturday trying to get him done. Too much going on in real life. Then I decided to mount the finished pieces and it looked so good that I've stayed up until 2:30am the last two night to get it finished in time to ship on Friday.
Pictures when I stop hallucinating from sleep deprivation.

Just gained nearly a whole week. Someone suggested flying with him. Even with excess baggage and oversize charges, it won't be much more expensive than UPS ground. And I can sleep tonight!

That is amazing!! Really a beautiful job!! I can't wait to see it in person.
You should know that I've said your name in vain a couple of times over the last 24 hours as you've shamed me into picking up my crochet hook again. So late in the game... dang.
Thanks for that!

VultureChow! I love it - the face especially. You put a lot of detail into this. I imagine it'll get some great reactions out of passersby at night, especially if you find the right place for it - maybe just about eye level on a car or camper?

So despite a large number of burners who seemed determined to ride him, my lion survived. Against my initial instincts to adopt him out, Hopper is in storage for next year. Hopefully he will have some new friends. Here he is all dusted off outside my hotel in Reno. If anyone has a picture of him on the playa, I'd appreciate it.

I love my pocket scarf VC - shame it only got cold enough to wear it once, but it will be a permanent part of my burn clothing since most years are colder at night.

Re: New crochet project
And now another wrinkle/opportunity regarding a companion to hopper. I was thinking of a large multi-year project and making some inquiries into a main part of it when someone offered me a skeleton of a lion. And now I can't stop seeing a yarn skeleton lion and hopper facing each other in front of my camp. The only questions: a) is it too macabre, and b) what color would I make the skeleton? White? Pink? Rainbow?
I like the idea better than just doing more taxidermy. Been there, done that. This would be a truly new project and some new skills to learn.
Very, very, tempting.

Re: New crochet project
If you put it in juxtaposition to Hopper, I think a natural, off-white color for the skeleton would be cool, especially if Hopper were spotted first. It'd be a startle for the mountain lion, then a startle for the skeleton of a lion!

Re: New crochet project
Well I found a much cheaper skeleton that might be an even better match to hopper. I like the natural skeleton idea, though if I adopt out hopper next year I'd want something a little more interesting on the skeleton. Like a rainbow skeleton. Maybe the solution is a natural colored skeleton this year but use a mild glue so I can strip and recover the next year. Or adopt them out as a pair and come up with something totally different.

That is truly amazing! He's so cute, too. As a fellow hooker, may I suggest in your next project, you include a bit of glow-in-the-dark yarn? That would be cool out there, right? I'm trying to find the right project myself for this.
Again, he's gorgeous! I hope to see him, and you, in person next year!

Glow in the dark cougar skeleton next to hopper?!
Yep. I think we have a winner.
Now to source the yarn.
Ooh... or reflective yarn, since I think most glow in the dark only lasts about 3 hours.

Re: New crochet project
You're right - that yarn glows for 3-4 hours max. But there's uv reactive yarn, too.
Or is that what you meant by reflective?

Ha ha, I had no idea that was you! Just saw this thread for the first time. Loved that mountain lion, though. I just unpacked a box and hung your scarf up! Ees so preeetty.

I googled reflective yarn, apparently it is A Thing! So cool. Can't wait to see how Hopper's Buddy will evolve.
I have a mounted dog skeleton in a box. Resin, I think. Part of an art project in 06, languishes in a box in the garage. Hmmm?
