KenMan apparently did not get that memo -- or misinterpreted it -- as he has been giving me spankings pretty much every time I pass him for the last 3 weeks. A definite improvement on our usual passing procedures.

In other news I GOT ELLORUM'S POSTCARD TODAY. Whoooohoooo!!!

Ken is building a SwagBoard for our "guest room". This being our first "year of the swag" as we interacted way more with actual people than just putting mileage on our bikes trying to look at all the stuff, we found ourselves with alot of things that clearly must have a proper presentation.

We haven't yet settled on an optimal design. Suggestions are welcome.

For now, it appears there will be a hanging bar for neck bling, and a cork section for stuff that can be impaled, and perhaps a metal section for magnetically holding stuff that we wish not to... It's all very scientifical (there's that word again, that my Census Kin winced at every time I'd throw it into conversation -- which was as often! Said, of course, with seriously wrinkled brow) but not yet refined enough to actually start building.

I hope to be back at work on a limited basis by Thursday, September 26 but that remains to be seen. (Running 401(k) rollovers isn't exactly heavy lifting.) I'm told that the procedure is very painful and I'm going to learn how to do everything left handed for awhile. I have received many nice notes from my friends and acquaintances wishing me well. I appreciate every one. I won't be able to respond in kind for some time, but make no mistake about it: It means a lot to me having so many people concerned about my welfare. Thank you all very much. So if I don't respond to you directly (and I probably won't) it's not that I'm ingoring you; rather, I'm ignoring everybody. But I'll keep reading between the norco and the hallucinations!

You are in my thoughts and prayers, Doc, for a speedy recovery with little pain. Rent a bunch of movies and settle in.

So Doc, be sure your surgeon knows you expect to be able to throw exploding fastballs and ungodly breaking stuff with that arm when he's done working on it.

BVB and MyDearFriend,

Thank you for the kindness and hugs. It has been a true roller coaster coming back on such a natural high to losing a real friend. Parts of Me wished I had been here; however, I know it was meant to be this way. The days will get better with all the great memories I have.

Your words and hugs have been the most help today.

LeCHAT!!!

*sets out drinking glasses and begins pouring Kentucky Bourbon*

It is good to see you hopping down from the rafters a little more often these days. I'm glad you liked the card, I was certainly glad to round up folks eager to sign it! I'm sure even more would have liked to have signed it, but the M&G was quite a whirlwind, and I became distracted numerous times. As you suggested, I tried to kick Unjon in the knee when I met him, but dang, he's still pretty spry that one! Actually, he and I shared a good laugh together at the M&G when I told him about your devious plan. You and Karine were certainly missed, as were other friends who couldn't make it this year.

I get the impression that you intend to put an end to such foolishness, and are playabound next year! I certainly hope so. Anyhow, I'm thrilled and also humbled to play a small part in helping to alleviate your homesickness for the burn this year.

*clinks glasses*

..to LeChat Noir! ..my very first burner friend ever!

Cheers!

Doc, good luck and positive thoughts for your surgery. My right shoulder too has a torn cuff but I was lucky enough not to need surgery. I am sure you will come through it spectacularly! Speedy recovery and hugs my friend.

Happy early birthday Delle! You deserve a most special day as you always manage to brighten mine :)

I missed seeing you all so much this year. MDF, I hope your trip is so much fun, make sure to give Delle a squeeze for me. Tink, I miss you too! Aw...I miss you all. ((hugs))

Hi Mikgus, nice to see you in here!

You know what they say, an Ygmir in the bush... wait, that's not it

So, I want to tell you guys about a plan the other moderators and I have been talking about for a while. We want to burn down the bar again. Well, different from what happened last year, where volume 3 of the bar was lost forever... we want to lock up volume 4 and start a volume 5. For the regulars, it's the same fun banter and chat, different thread... but in watching what happened after volume 4 started, we noticed that a lot more new and recent members were participating. I suspect it's because the bigger and bigger a thread gets, the more intimidating it might be for newcomers. Anyways... the whole event has a strong element of rebirth, renewal, and starting all over, so we figure that we'll make it an annual thing. For those who want to say their goodbyes or work up some photoshop wizardry of carving their initials, names, favorite drinks, et al into the bar.

Last call for volume 4 will be the weekend of SF decompression (which takes place on Sunday October 13). That's also the weekend I plan on building the 2014 event boards (unless the theme announcement is made before then).

hey Trilo!! good idea!
I know, a huge chasm formed, way back with "bar2", and that was merely due to the slow loading of the original bar. some blood enemies were made over that.
Since then, the mutations to 3 and 4, IMHO, lessened that. A yearly thing, will quell the rancour over "it's tradition, it's the only "real" bar"
Will the other bar threads still exist, for research and memories? That'd be neat........there were some great events and watersheds, that took place "back when"........some beloved characters, who we fondly remember, and like to refer to their wisdom at times. This would allow "cites" if needed in making assertions or points.

and yeah, Ygmirs, do like to be in bushes........

Hi Marty!! yeah, we should talk plans, to and fro, and if you have room there for two intrepid travelers.

Hi shroom!
Hi MDF......poof that dust!! I fondly think of the dusty journey back from the D.C. containers, hard to navigate when you can't see landmarks.
