Burning Man Collectibles
Been going sice 1999 and have always saved ticket stubs,WWW guides, camp schwag etc.Have also added to the collection with magazines featuring Burning Man.A 1996 Wired Magazine Burning Man cover is classic. You can also get a very cool August 2001 National Geographic Burning Man cover very cheap as usually listed as the"Public Lands" issue.
Would be interested in seeing if there are any others doing the same and what your favorite BM collectible(no street signs please) might be.

Re: Burning Man Collectibles
I have a 2001 Triple A Via magazine stashed somewhere. Instrumental in my decision to attend. I do have several folders full of ephemera, but have cut up some of the extra survival guides to make into collages. I'm probably going to stop doing that, they're harder to come by lately.

Re: Burning Man Collectibles
I have 3 cut in half 55 gallon barrels I hauled out of some burn a few years back, and some of the long rebar overhang from the temple a couple years back. This has more to do with me being a borderline hoarder and looking at big sooty pieces of junk while drunk on burn night and saying, "Hey, I bet I can get that back to camp on my bike/chariot." This year it was just some large bolts and nuts from the man. Maybe make a wind chime.....

Re: Burning Man Collectibles
I will have to run down the AAA mag,Thanks for mentioning it.Kind of made a hobby of trying to find this sort of thing If you need a certain survival guide to complete the collage I probably have an extra in my boxes. All Burning Man stuff is getting harder to find.So much energy and committment from(most of) the participants lends itself to wanting to hang on to a piece of it.
I have a friend in Iowa who also collects the odd piece of history from the ashes of BM and puts to interesting use.Nothing as exceptional as drum halves but he doesn't always ride a bike.

Re: Burning Man Collectibles
I do not collect films but would be interested in knowing what film you are talking about.
Here are a couple of favorite things from 2002.Probably the most interesting year for stuff. The "Treasure Map" and tokens,if Burning Man memoribilla ever takes off, will be a very elusive item.
I wish I knew which camp gave away the"Unofficial Burning Man Kit".Poor image but one match,a bud and some E.Pretty sure not real but never opened the cello. The sticker reminds us of the outrage some felt about selling coffee at Center Camp.

Burning Man 1997 by Cirino
The first widespread video of burning man was on Weird TV.
Same people involved.
They're out on dvd, and interesting stuff.
Most of it is not burner related.

Re: Burning Man Collectibles
I suspect most burners have a drawer full of patches, pins, decals, and other swag ( stuff we ain't got ).
Re: Burning Man Collectibles
This thread has inspired me to pull out all my BM swag (survival guides, WWW's, stickers and such) and make a collage. Yep. I am going to cut them all up and make the ones you have even more rare. Lucky you.
I am feeling very homesick today. Completely OT but I watched Spark - a Burning Man Story yesterday and I just want to load up groceries and all my stuff into the van and go right back to the playa.

Re: Burning Man Collectibles
I've been nearly completely dysfunctional since I have returned to said 'default world' ... slowly, ever so slowly am I reprogramming back into daily routine... I seem to be fighting it from some unconscious level. I feel disconnected, one step away from this reality.danibel wrote:... I am feeling very homesick today. Counting the days til I can return to the dust...

Re: Burning Man Collectibles
I'm giving this a nudge over to the Experiences At Burning Man board, even though some collectibles (such as books, etc) may not have come from the playa.

There for awhile I thought the thread had been deleted due to a speculative comment on 2002 stuff. In the spirit of the thread shift we will post our very first Playa connection.Note the warning was quite prominent in those days.

Not swag, and not what I'd call a collectible, but I just nailed this to my door frame so I see it every day as I leave for work.

It marked my camp site this year and I like that it reminds me of the two haves of my self.

Awwwwww... Thanks Patsh.
Though I must admit it was shortened significantly at Ellis Island. We were really Liebovitz.

When we were staking out the village everyone was like - who is this? So I said VC and they added it.VultureChow wrote:Not swag, and not what I'd call a collectible, but I just nailed this to my door frame so I see it every day as I leave for work.

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Isn't interesting how the most important schwag is the one that recalls a moment of connection?

Thank you for that. One of my favorite items from BM and the only one on display in my apartment.Drawingablank wrote:When we were staking out the village everyone was like - who is this?
