Heading out to goodwill right now.. Need odd brass for a project..
Re: Score!
Congrats on the score, Gyre. As for what you should do with it, that's entirely up to you.gyre wrote:All thanks to Elliot, or blame, I just got a Terrybass boat and a Mantra jet drag boat. ... ...
Should I mutant it?
For the record, I have nothing -- nor have had anything -- to do with this boat or any other project of Gyre's. My tentacles simply don't reach to Tennessee. I imagine he means my general tendency to bite over projects that are bigger than I can chew.

I got A BAG FULL of Playa dust when I cleaned out my jeep...SCORE!
Re: Score!
I don't remember if I posted this score earlier, but I discovered this "Score!" thread just now. So... a couple of months ago I was gifted this camping trailer. Only thing I have gotten around to doing with it since this picture is wash it -- and it cleaned up beautifully. All the dark grime in the picture washed right off. (It was parked under trees for five years.) Looks almost new on the outside now. And it has almost new tires. Power jacks work. Slide-out room works (on other side). It needs interior repair due to water leaks. No idea what to do with it. It ought to hold about 40 or 50 bicycles.
Of course, now I need a bigger truck to pull it.

My crewcab dually GMC would be just right!
I've always wanted one of those, amazing home-like comfort on the playa... but then I couldn't pull the Land Yacht.

Nice.
Elliot, you're the one that told me to watch out for boats to get the trailers.
For whatever reason, probably the popularity of boating here, I've never seen one even cheap before.
I wouldn't have looked at these otherwise.
Even though older, it looks like both are viable boats.
There is a larger Wellcraft listed free now locally, with no trailer.
I showed up for what I expected to be an easy tow, as the new place is very close.
As soon as I shut my friend's van off, the ignition broke.
It took me until late that night in the heat to get it towed home for him.
The next day, they were supposed to tow them for me with their tow truck.
In the meantime, their family business broke up, so they couldn't tow it for me, even though the tow rig was across the street!
So then I was all day getting a smaller ball mounted, towed an air tank over and aired up again.
Slow pull with a flat on each trailer, but got it done.
They even listed it as trailers, but must take boats.

New 6.0 hp vertical shaft motor.. $30.. It was a pressure washer.. The cat pump went out for lack of oil.. The cart it is mounted on is a great dolly.. Worth every bit of thirty bucks.. I already have a tractor tranny and rear in.. Also a rack and pinion steering in "the pile"..
Now what to do with all this?"??00

My husband wears a Japanese yukata for lounging around in camp in the mornings. I've been jealous of it, but didn't want to pay to order one, so every time I go to the thrift store I look for one. I was starting to think I'd just make one and had been looking at patterns But yesterday I finally found one! Red, with pink flowers, 100% cotton, looks brand new, for $7. Huzzah!

Re: Score!
Woohoo for yukatas! We have ours from Japan, mine is in sad, sad shape. Used to belong to my dad. Larry got his when the dry cleaner on base sold off stuff people hadn't picked up (six months and they're sold). It had been custom made for a tall man. I dread the day I have to find another. Real ones are near impossible to score this far away from a big military base.

My daughter is going to Japan in a few weeks.. She will be paying extra luggage to take her kimono.. She is going to a wedding of her best friends daughter.. Think I'll ask her to bring a yukata back for me..AntiM wrote:Woohoo for yukatas! We have ours from Japan, mine is in sad, sad shape. Used to belong to my dad. Re: Score!
Oooh, she has a full dress kimono? Marvelous. End of the summer, yukata can be tricky to come by, but not impossible. They always have the tacky tourist polyester ones on base in the exchange, but the cotton ones came and went seasonally. I hope she can find one for you!

$2 at the flea market. Gold aluminum hard hat. It's missing the interior, but I've got loads of those.

I'm not great at the whole costume thing, but it already has me dreaming of a gold lame safety reflective vest.

good one VC. I'm not much of a costume person myself, but I do like hats with electrics.

"Liquid lame" is shiny, stretchy and sturdy as fuck. My favorite on-line fabric store has it in gold for $7 a yard.VultureChow wrote:

While goodwillhunting, I picked up a vest.. It's tweed, six buttons and four slash pockets.. It just screams Steampunk.. Problem.. It is way too small for me.. Like for a small male or female..Now I have to find a home for it.. Which one of you steampunkers would like to have it.. I will throw it in the mail to you..

I was unaware this thread existed. My last good will score. It fits me like a glove and it's silk lined with a silk back.
