Temple Burn - Sunday at 8PM

The smoke & cloud will help, but reflect light back down too.

That's one word I regret googling during breakfast.

Video games are giving kids unrealistic expectations on how many swords they can carry.
.
, but don't harm the red dragon that frequents the area from time to time. He and I have an agreement.

So bummed I missed it. I saw the glow of the fire from camp and was supremely disappointed when I hauled ass out to the playa only to see it had already burnt to the ground.

Re: Temple Burn - Sunday at 8PM
This was a very sad surprise for all of us deep in the city packing up at 8pm... We had an experience similar to ACfromSAC's, it was very disappointing.
Why was the Temple Burn changed to 8pm? Is this change to 8pm going to be a permanent one?
Besides this discussion thread, was the 8pm burn time communicated anywhere else? I didn't see anything about it, but perhaps I missed something...?

I believe it changed last year. In order to help Exodus--get people waiting until after the burn out earlier. In view of that, I consider it a permanent alteration. The Fairy Princess wrote:This was a very sad surprise for all of us deep in the city packing up at 8pm... Definitely a new change this year, and I was far from the only one not informed. Pretty much every other camp still around us was equally confused and quite saddened that they had stayed until Sunday night only to miss the Temple Burn anyway.theCryptofishist wrote: I believe it changed last year. Evidently, NBC Miami even picked up the story, weird... http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/Burning-Ma ... 6951.html#

Yeah, I read here that the burn was moved to 8pm, none of my neighbors knew this. When we reached the perimeter before 8 I asked one of the BR rangers and they had no clue, said it would be well after 9, like always... They called over more khaki and got the same answer. (Meanwhile behind them the glow of torches entered the temple.) Unfortunately the lack of crowd on our side made it possible to stand and watch without the intolerant harassment from "sitters".

Can anyone tell me more about the rocks inside the temple? I thought it was cool to see them standing tall and mighty even through the burn!

After the flames died, the rock was brittle and rough from the heat, chips came off. I was handed a piece that night, and again the next morning.
Re: Temple Burn - Sunday at 8PM
It felt like the entire city was heading towards the Temple at the same time. I made it out to Esplanade and caught a glimpse of it engulfed in flames...glanced away...it was gone.
I would take Freebird six times in a row and nonstop screeching "SIDDOWN" over missing the burn entirely.

Can I ask how changing the time would stop the drones? Do they not fly at 8pm - tea time?trilobyte wrote:My understanding is also that no drones should be flying over that burn.
Didn't bother me however, I can't stay quite for longer than 5mins on the playa - sitting and shhing isn't my thing

rumor has it that it was built to burn fast, they had to beat the play time of freebird.

Re: Temple Burn - Sunday at 8PM
@Bumble - as I think has been said, the scheduled burn time was all about exodus traffic issues. The no fly policy for drones was a completely independent rule change.
