Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hi, I am also a newbie who hopes to go in 2014. Like the last several posters, I too will be going alone for various reasons - pretty sure I prefer it that way. I've been on the main site & forum reading like the fiend that I am - even threads that aren't relevant to me, I've read them all the way through... Like this one (awesome): http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... &start=600.
I decided to take a short break from reading to introduce myself, first because I think it's polite, but also because I kept seeing a lot of the same names (mods, of course, but others too). I started to get an idea of who some of you are, like other online friends I *actually* have... and that could get creepy fast, if I keep lurking. Ya know?

Hey hey hey!
Miguel's the name, but most people call me Migs.
Decided last week (?!?!?) that after way too long, I needed a new adventure and that Burning Man should finally be tackled. (Can you tackle a Burning Man? Should you tackle a Burning Man?) Well, anyway, my buddy Nick and I are going to make the trek from Central California next year and see what adventures lie in wait. I've already thrown myself into way too much research and I have to admit that I'm very excited about the prospect of a week on the Playa. Can't wait to do some more reading and meet some new people!
Bye for now...

Welcome My Faverach, Come on out of the shadows and let us get to know you. Add your brain to the tank. Maybe we'll meet in person in the dust next year.
Welcome aboard Migs. Glad that you've decided to attend next year. That leaves you plenty of time to get your gear and wrap your head around it.
It's great to have 2 new Eplaians. Lets join hands and do, 'Ring Around the Rosie'. OK. Maybe not. Just a group hug (((((((---)))))))

I LOVE NEW BURNERS!!! You bring an excitement and sense of wonder. Your fresh, unjaded view of the event makes me want to hug each and every one of you. You guys are like my Grandparents in 1934 seeing California for the first time. (After living in the dust of Kansas for years.) That Thing In The Desert, TTITD will rob you of sleep and make time warp. Every new burner brings something and takes something. By letting people help, you enrich their lives. You can arrive home and not realize for months that you have changed. Welcome one and all.

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hello,
My Name's Steven Hoffman, and I'm hoping to attend Burning Man 2014. I don't know who or what I'll be on the playa, but in the default world I pay the bills by being a jeweler, camera man, TV Host, and doing Tech Support. It's really only one job, but for anyone with a job that doesn't have a fancy title, you end up being a lot of things all at once. I'm a gamer, and by that I mean card games, board games, and role-playing games(including LARPS).
I'd feel better about going if I could join a camp that I knew would welcome me(Though i know that everyone's nice and welcoming, one that is expecting me and my mistakes and has my back would be nice). Depending on finances, I was considering getting an 18' Playa Dome, and filling it with high-end inflatable furniture to make a nice home while minimizing the size of my luggage. Possibly opening it as a casual lounge/space for anyone who wants to hang out. Possibly bring some of my more desert friendly board games, especially the ones that involve pretty colors and heavy thinking.
Just ideas I'm thinking about while trying to set aside enough money to make the pilgrimage. As everyone knows better than me, things change, especially while the event is so far off.

Hello, were excited to be here and are going to make it to BM in 2014 unless something goes radically wrong. We retired and have several things on our bucket list, this being one of them. Moved from Maine to Florida after retiring. Nice to meet everyone and see you all at Black Rock City!!!!

hello and greetings with alot of bubbles and hugs!!! I will be a first time burner in 2014, I am Tinkermom's other half, she has been going for 3 years now. I have finally decided to step it up and go next year. I know it will be a great time and to meet so many fabulous people, I have gone to small gatherings here in AZ and one in New Mexico had a blast. I can just imagine how fabulous it is with so many more people, just a few thousand more. With so much to do, the art, the music and fellowship of great people all together. Wow so fabulous!!!

Welcome everyone!!
Divreon, that is a very ambitious plan. It's great to 'hit the ground participating'. I always recommend to keep it simple the first year. You'll be back and you'll have a lot of different ideas. It would be a shame to spend money on something you'll replace next time. And there will be a next time. On the other hand, Bring an entire circus. We'll all come and play with you.
Welcome otpaddler, Burning Man is the perfect retirement activity. It can keep you busy for months. It's also a great vacation from the mediocre day to day life. (The jealousy of all your friends and neighbors is an added bonus.)
BubbleHugs, Can't wait to meet cha. (Half of Timkermom would be Tinmo or Kerm.) How exciting to be joining her next year. Welcome.
Everybody do their research and ask plenty of questions. We're here for you. The man burns in 348 days.

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hello all.
My name is Kelcie and I am fervently planning on making the roughly 1450 mile trek to my first Burning Man next year. I can't remember where or how I first got exposure to this wondrousness but it's been a few years now. I am finally at a point in my life where it will be possible to attend.
I am beyond excited.
I have already begun to stock up on wine and bubbles to bring and have started to feast on all the information I can get my hands on so I can be as prepared as possible. The pieces of me that are drawn to whimsy and list making are having a hayday with planning for this, let me tell ya!
I look forward to meeting everyone!

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Welcome Pat and girlfriend. It's great to meetcha. Glad to hear that you're interested in being prepared. One tip is that you subscribe to the burning Man newsletter. You'll find it on the BM home page. It's called Jack Rabbit Speaks. This way you'll be up on the latest news and ticket sales. Become part of our on-line community through your research and questions. See you in the dust of 2014.

yes you did, thank you so much.
you also stopped by my camp this year, but i was serving people at the bar so i only had a few minutes to talk.
I'd love to go every year, but based on my budget it may be a bit difficult. we'll see what happens, I would love to be out there in 2014.

Hi Steven! Hi Anne! Hi Pete! Hi Bubblehugs! Hi Kelcie! Hi Pat! Hi Kc! Hi Ari!
You've joined up at a great time. You've got plenty of time to get yourself squared away. Add the word "eplaya" to any google search on Burning Man if you don't see what you're looking for here via "Search". A new topic is very rare indeed.

Cool. To Do #1: *Occasionally* stop reading eplaya & get shit done.
That might be harder than just bringing everything I own.

Hi hi! My name is Aly and I am a 2014 hopeful burner. Never been before but intensely psyched about even the THOUGHT of being able to go.
I have a few friends interested in going and we are slowly getting supplies together to make the expense seem not so large, and so we can save money for our tickets of course! We will be heading down from the west coast of Canada aaaaaand yeah I've basically spent most of my free time researching and making lists. I hope to make BM an annual event but of course I'll see how it goes first
Glad to be a part of the community and looking forward to all the wisdom that you have to share!
