so, I'm needing advice:
I'd like to get rid of a ton of stuff here.
I don't have the time or patience for yard sales.
But, would love to get some cash from the deal.

What to do?
do I find a random person to put it together, and sell stuff?
Ebay?
I dunno........I know there will be some antiques and collectables, just because.........

I bet I could fill a 20' conex with stuff to get rid of, just to add scale.

Dang, Yggy... I'm in the same boat, being the "Packrat-From-Hell" that I am. And, I have good taste in my packratism, I'm told. Trying to make space, after going from 40 acres out of town to a regular house 'in town' with all the fancy stuff like water and electricity, but not so much space. Must...let...go......
Mostly, I've been finding (slowly) people who 'need' stuff and am able to give it away. There are lots of things I'd rather sell, as you personally know, like the table saw and such.
Not sure I'd have the patience for a yard sale. Craig's List for the big stuff, I guess. That takes organization and photos, neither of which I seem to have at the moment. So, no help here for you, unless I can come see what you have, and trade stuff!
(that's not much help, really now, is it?!!) :?

I just put 4 garbage bags on the curb. Plus tennis rackets, pottery and books. The neighborhood will absorb the clothes and towels. By tomorrow night it will be gone. Great way to clean house.

It's no fun setting you up when you play the martyr and don't play.
And I'm not seeing anything intellectualish yet.

For the record, saying you're not saying anything, is not not saying anything.

Kinda sounds like a fun job to go through all your fun stuff.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

I bet we could do some sort of trading email list.
A lot of what I have is rare, but that isn't always valuable by the time you sell it.

Other than that, yeah, find someone to market it for you.
Craigslist for most, ebay and specialist areas for some stuff, on down to freecycle.
Anyone doing a lot at once can do more without wasting time.

As for the trouble, I once tried to sell off some collectibles.
Gathered and valued them, called dealers and wanted 10% of value.
No interest.
So I put them in the right national classifieds, and slowly sold them bit by bit, eventually even selling some to the dealers that ignored me before.
Final take = ten times the original price.
Spent time on it, but no real regrets.
So that's how that can turn out.

Ah, Yggy, stuff.

I gave up on yard sales, people want to pay pennies, or they steal. Ebay is a pain in the ass these days. Everyone wants free shipping because the big sellers can afford to offer it. I've not tried Craigslist. I do offload things for free via Freecycle, but even that can be annoying.

For the antiques and such, find someone who specializes and have them list your items. Not an ideal way to get top price, but you'll be balancing convenience against price.

Good luck!

Hey, good morning! Looks like I slept in! Read a novel a bit late last night -- John Grisham is hard to put down.

I hereby nominate an item as the most difficult thing to get rid of: A 32 inch television of the old cathode ray tube type. Weighs around 150 pounds. One neighbor gave it to another neighbor. (Guess who transferred it.) Then the second neighbor moved out and abandoned the TV out front. No response after a week on Freecycle. I also put a "free" sign on it. Couple more days and it goes to the recycling yard.

They may charge you extra for a crt.

Elliot, if it's a low quality one, the market is mostly the very poor and near homeless and the elderly, and people that don't care about tv much.

If you look around, you'll find someone that wants it, usually with limited net access.
I use the hidef crts and some beat the stuffings out of anything new in their size range, like the high range superfine pitch sonys. (1400 lines resolution)
Better to find a use for these than toxic waste if you can.
i re-home these things all the time.
A network that helps the homeless could help, and I have actually driven around and given them to people sitting on their porch.
The hotels that cater to borderline homeless may be a place for them.
They don't provide tvs in all of those.
Many people will use them, but have no way to move a larger one.
A lot of the later ones are lodef and actually low quality, but have a digital tuner.
That was required after a certain date.
People off the net may be tech unsavvy or just have no idea how cheap these tvs have become.
Many people still don't understand the tuner boxes can be used with them.
Good luck!

The TV is a Sony Trinitron (or some such word). But what it really is, is a 150 pound lump of coal. These days, even the borderline homeless (and we have tons of those in this town) expect a five-foot TV that they can hang on the wall with a couple of thumb tacks.

And I anticipate paying a few bucks to get rid of it, yes. Won't be the first time. Just last week I paid $15 to dump a mattress that was "adorning" the front yard of a home recently vacated. It's very much worth the effort and the few bucks to help keep up the neighborhood. (I suppose I could take this to the Cascadia thread.) :D
