OMG!! everybody has a general address- and Our Post offices distribute mail thru out the event. Its a nifty way to pass messages and to get your communication from those whom wish to give you the inside skinny- or send you gifts.

We also can deliver to you mail from outside the playa as well! YES REAL mail from stalkers- and agencys wishing to remind you to pay your default accounts accrewed in defering all your standard income and payable debt - to purchasing all nessary items to submerge yourself in our culture that is Burningman.

Do we pick up your mail? Fucking rarely so get your butt to our center camp and plaza locations and join others in what has been a Playa standard in experiance and a halmark of Initiation.... Annd if selected by our random victems of mail co-ordinator board-
you will be Abducted to FrateniZING with the Postal elite- for recruited training in both delivery and SAFETY on site at the Playa.

So when planing your camp or just planning your pack in- remember the savy item that will set you apart from just ANY Virgin -Noob- or Fledgling Burner- Remember to pack your Camp Mailbox!!! Youll gain the respect of your elders and covet some bitchin mail.

I didn't get much in our mailbox this year, although Genius did get one postcard which had been severely water damaged. We could barely read it ourselves, so kudos to the delivery folks!

Our neighbors across the street had a mailbox, we put random crap in it all week. Odd little gifts from the gift box, mostly.

In the past I've mailed post cards from BM. I've never gotten anything in my mailbox except little junk and some moop. Is regular USPS mail delivered on the playa? I've always assumed that it was. Can you address cards or packages to a certain camp, street or vehicle description?

I've received postcards, packages and letters on the playa. The people sending then have to do the timing just right, so it is best if you pretty much know your address beforehand.

In 2012 I built a rickshaw type cart for a camp that delivered messages of some sort around the city. Pony Girl Express or something along those lines. So I really ought to "get with the program" myself.

Last weekend I saw a stack of second-hand mail boxes at the local flea market.

No, that's not mine. Mine has only two wheels and is pulled by a person on foot. That's what they wanted, so that's what I built. But the one in the pictures is much better! And I love how the "horse" is made up! Whoever they are, good job!

Oh... and... the fellow at the flea market wants five bucks for a mail box. Fuggettaboutit. I have ten months to scavenge one for a quarter or free. There is one available on my block (we don't have mail delivery here!), but it is plastic, so that's out.

Good morning! Kind of you to say, Peyote.

Many people could create their own mailbox. Like most projects, it is largely a matter of diving into it, and the skills will develop as you go.

When we build something unusually artistic or amusing we create joy, but we also risk making the item unrecognizable. With some things this would not matter, but a mailbox needs to be very readily identifiable from a distance, so any mail carrier can easily spot it as he approaches the camp.

So I'm thinking.... If the box is very unusual, it needs to sit prominently out front where it cannot be missed. Conversely, if you prefer to install the box less prominently, it needs to be a conventional style, easily recognizable out of the corner of the mail carrier's eye.

It is probably best if any mailbox has a conventional door, such as required on real mailboxes. Granted, the carrier might enjoy "solving a puzzle" to find and open the door, but she might also have just pulled a 200 pound contraption thru a couple miles of Dust storm, and not be amused by a "too clever" box.

I've seen a few neat mailboxes when driving around the country side. My 2 favorites were a little tractor. You had to lift the bucket to put the mail in and the other was a barn with a bale of hay hanging in front. You pull on the hay bale to open the barn doors and put the mail in.

I can't remember where the tractor one was. I just passed it one day while driving some back roads. The barn one belonged to a friend's family, and ended up being the victim of a snow plow.
