Thank you All!

Fishy, sorry that event was just a co-opted piece of crap. They sure sold it well.

Of course the bar is pretty high in the bay area, but any moron in marketing would know that.

Found a big damn boat or two.
The dmv has bigger archives.
Bet there's a houseboat out there somewhere, even as a camper.

I was thinking how easy it would be to strip an old RV down to the chassi and bolt an old pontoon boat on it.

Then build the house on it that would be good enough to get passed by the DMV with a complete living space inside.

It would be a portable camp that you could park in a different spot every night.

I don't think I've seen anything like that at the burn. 8)

:coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

I see old houseboats in boat yards around here often. More so in So. Utah, around Lake Powell. I now know there's a lot of "partial ownership" houseboats, like floating timeshares. Huh. They aren't cheap, even the crappy ones.

There's an mv built like a cabin with a porch, so it sounds possible.

Ygnir, call or visit your local scrap yard. Talk to them and tell them what you told us. If they don't have that kind of removal service (where they'd remove it, go through it, and move it along for a percentage of the vaue), they may be able to refer you to someone who'll do that for you. Win-win for everybody - they make a few bucks, you make a few bucks, and you get it cleared from your land.

Hooray for finally starting to feel decidedly better. I started coming down with the plague mid-week, which interfered with my plans to get a project moving. And then to make things more frustrating, another project I'm involved in flared up and required some urgent last-minute testing. Forunately I got that done, but the DIY furniture project has been dragging along. Yesterday was better than the day before, but I still felt crappy, didn't get to go to the farmer's market, and doing the sanding and routing wiped me out. Today feels even better still. No fever, and plenty of energy. No as much energy as the kitten's got, but plenty enough to make some breakfast and get some stuff done :-)

On a side note, less than a week left for the bar :D

Thinking cheaper and easier.

A 6' wide base vehicle with just the chassi and drivetrain intact.

Then set an 8' wide pontoon frame right on it with the potoons intact.

The pontoons would hide the wheels and be 3" or 4"s above the ground.

Build a bijou shanti or any type of "house" on it completely self contained.

Haul it on a trailer to the playa, park the truck and trailer on the back streets, and have a portable "camp" all week. 8)

In 4 years I haven't seen anything like this and it seems sooooooooo obvious.

The "sturn" deck would be the only "public" space.

Hello beautiful people! Hugs all around!

Glad to hear you're on the mend Trilo! Being ill is the worst.

It's Sunday, which for me means Mimosas, but for many of you it means :coffee: Even though I don't drink the stuff, I thought I'd bring the ingredients to make your Sunday (And your :coffee: ) a bit more potent...

I'm going to stick with Mimosas. Help yourself.

I believe an old motor home chassis is a great platform for a mutant vehicle and particularly a great idea for a houseboat!
They can be had dirt cheap when the body is leaky and rotted, and are loaded with goodies like onboard generators, fresh and waste water systems, etc. All the stuff - even furniture - to make your houseboat function for real.

It is pretty hard to find a cheap old houseboat to cut up but they are simple enough you could custom build it all.

I've been considering a larger boat that doubled as my "camp" myself... hmmmm..... houseboat.....
