But Burners were clearly self reliant ..3 young Dudes cooking bacon at dawn ..and pockets of others enjoying and sharing wellbeing

Good morning, bar! The kitten got an early start on mooching for pets by slinking up and laying on my neck around 4am. Very cute, even as she twists and turns herself around to flop her head up on my cheek. She's an avalanche of cute, that one. Of course, I woke up groggy and she was bouncing off the walls.

Good call on stocking up early, Ygmir - better to get that out of the way now than to end up having to scramble around after it starts snowing.

Off I go, today's big project is to work on building that artspace island for Pandorra. Then I have to stop procrastinating and get rid of my ziggurat model. I certainly don't need it anymore, and it's taking up a bunch of space.

That houseboat idea is so compelling, Figjam, and Captain G you do have what it takes! What a fun day-dream that is. It even solves the problem of driving home sober after the party. I will be sure to rope off a space marked HOUSEBOAT PARKING ONLY in my camp, from now on, in hopes that it may someday be used.

We haven't had any meat in the house for a long time... But trick or treaters will soon be in the mix..

Yggy, I haven't checked the commissary, but if Travis is opening, I think Hill will be also. I know they're getting folks back to work. Larry hit Costco for me, so we're stocked up for a while. He found amazing bread at Winco, $1.63 for sliced whole grain, and that includes tax. Wow! I know Winco is not nationwide, but if you have one, they have good bulk sales.

Larry was home overnight, he got the art boxes in so I can sort the leftovers and donations which need a little TLC. I've still got the kitchen table geared toward art, already working on pieces for next year.

well, back from the supply trip.
got lots of staples, so, I can eat in case we get 6' of snow and can't get out for 4 or 5 months.....hahaaa.
So, the butcher said the beef is about the best he's ever seen........I'm guessing that's good coming from a butcher. it's high mountain grass and brush fed, foraging all year from here to the high mountains. pretty lean (I like fat, so not sure there yet, hahaha).
it averages 6 bucks/pound, across the board. Does anyone have a feel for that price? I know some cuts are way less, but some are probably more, too. I just never know prices.
Just wondering if it's something I'll do again.

so, in the parking lot.......I'd mozying along, and a guy steps out in front of me. I stop, of course. He waves me to pass......but he's in front of me, centered about 3' away.
I smile, and say "go ahead, please". he says no, go on by.

Hi gang! all loaded with a ton or so of red brick, the the final few feet of granite to finish the floor!!
Headin' to the Hof tomorrow, to unload, so I'm ready to "lay brick" next time up.

Thanks for the input MDF. yeah, these cattle are almost "browsers" as opposed to just grass fed.....they free range above 5K ft. in elevation here in the Sierras. and he fattens them in an area his family has used for generations, running cattle. It's wild california lilac, and evidently, it's a delicacy for the cattle. He lets them in this area the last 8 weeks of summer, to get fat and gorge.......they say it makes the beef taste different, I suppose that means good........hahaha
And yeah, I have halp a pig in the freezer, and will get another later this winter. They come from a Burner down the street here, hand raised and such.

I used to get it cheaper here, because they said most people don't like the taste.

Sounds like this is specialty beef.

Morning Bar!

We used to get our range fed beef from a family friend whose larger family own ranches in Utah and Idaho, up around the Grouse range. The cattle are a half Angus, and you sure can taste the sage and mesquite. More like game than beef. Half a beef, about $3.50 a pound. But she has moved on, so I'd need to look for another source. Utah has plenty of ranchers who will set aside a calf for anyone who has the cash, and they all know good cutters. Half a beef cut up and packaged is remarkably compact, but you do need a chest freezer for it.

I'm sure beef prices are also regional, I'm betting as always CA is the highest. Ah well, ultimately, it's a years worth of meat (I hope) and knowing it's pure and non medicated or hormoned is worth something.

heading up to the Hof in a bout an hour......hoping to beat the snow called for tomorrow. But I know it'll just be flurries. I just don't want to be laying brick with green mortar in the rain/snow, so just unloading and getting ready. Probably start the brick work next week.

Good morning.

In my fantasy life I have a place in the woods with a wood burning stove and a big freezer with beef, venison and one of those delectable Hungarian pigs they sell at my farmers market. Every year I look at the half pig and beef quarter prices and dream.

In my real life I have a condo downtown with a Starbucks, a gym and a day spa on the ground floor.

I'm not even sure I would like my fantasy life. I mean, I like being able to walk to 3 Thai restaurants.
