I'm listening to a little West Texas music, Robert Earl Keene, Los Lonely Boys, James McMurtry. I wish I could fly all the time, but I can only volunteer for the air ambulance on my days off. Helps me get perspective for when they come to me and get my patients. Flew from Pahrump to Las Vegas twice in 5 hours, first flight right into the rising sun, awesome. Have three more days off. ZG, yes it seems like a whole lot of nothing to some, city folks mostly, but I chose this profession because of where I get to live and what I get to do. Tish, wadda ya think of that pic? Another Patron' for the green and gray?
okay, okay...one more dance then i'm out...sleepy time...
nice pic, HT! cool suit! i miss the desert.
night, ZG!
i'll see y'all on the flip side!

Joel, do you normally get up at 4 or is it all the political excitement / anxiety you've been affected by?
normal is the 80 pound boxer shaking its head to wake me up so it/she can go outside to pee...
political excitement? where? the election is pretty much the same old same old that i grew up with in Springfield, IL.
i think i have been rising early since 1967 when i had my first paper route... through the '70s as a teenager, a paper route and/or my cranky fucking step-grandfather waking us up at 7AM daily in the summer... and then 20 years of the military... so, if all that is normal... then i normally get up at 4AM or so... trust me, if i could sleep in, i would...
is it too early for beer?

Maybe Woodrow would like to be an EMT and ambulance driver. I doubt he's big enough for the fire department.samtzu wrote:My dad was a cop... Yeah, but the get to wear cool uniforms and shoot things and shit like that... and drive in fast cars with pretty lights... and the siren that goes, "Woo woo woo woo woo woo woo!!!" Fun!!!
Just shut up...

Not me. The smell of fish makes me nauscious. (So nawshus I can't spell apparently.)geekster wrote:The Captain Morgan is to wash the taste of the sardines out of my mouth. Oh, I was just thinking about what people would do if you "gifted" them something completely disgusting ... like a sardine smoothy. Would they feel an obligation to try it? Would they pass it up? What about a WONDERFUL smoothy that is just under a very thin layer of olive oil out of a sardine can. You TELL them that it is a sardine smoothy but really it is bannana, orange, strawberry, coconut or something. If they dare try it, they get a nice treat.

That seems to be what it was. Although we were probably not the intended audience.geekster wrote:Okay, then I retract my statement of sympathy *whoosh*
So I just watched the Osama speach with English subtitles on a ticker crawling along the bottom of the screen. I think they messed up because all it kept saying was:
Nanny-nanny boo-boo. You can't catch me.

Hi everyone. On a post-sugar letdown from Halloween candy. I will have black coffee and maybe a piece of jerky.
Hey, I had an idea. How about art that appeals to the sense of smell. I thought I might, one morning next year, start the day at oh, 8 am or so ... with a HUGE pile of bacon frying and camp coffee boiling in a big-assed pot. Just the thought of the neighbors downwind waking up smelling bacon and coffee ....

Years ago I lived in Eastern North Carolina for a while. One of the favorite local weekend social activities was a "pig pickin'". A whole pig would be slow roasted and pieces would be sliced off as required. Yum.
Keeping the thing alive would certainly make sure it was fresh but it does create a MOOP problem that I would not want to deal with on the playa.
Bacon would be easy in that I could fill nearly an entire cooler and have some dry ice in there to keep things chilly for a few days. I am not interested so much in having a bacon kitchen so much as creating a one-time experiance. Just have people talking about "you remember the time we woke up and could smell the bacon and coffee?" Just a little tickle of the senses, I guess. I am trying to think of anything else that might have a strong smell that carries a great distance. It doesn't have to be bacon, I am just remembering my own experiances camping and how it seemed like you could smell bacon and coffee a mile away.
I could probably do something in the evening with garlic too.

Eggs are kinda funny. The shells are porous so they can be contaminated by liquids that come in contact with the shells and pick up odors from things they are stored with. The safest way to bring eggs is to crack them into a plastic container like Tupperware, mix the whites and yolks together and freeze it solid and then transport in a cooler with dry ice. Okay, so we have eggs and bacon covered, all we need now is some salsa.
