Why we cannot rave anymore....

On a mailing list I am on someone sent out a message regarding candy kids and so called raver freaks. They blamed this for a reaon for the decline of the rave scene. I sent a reply which I will post below. I felt this somewhat relevant here due to the anti-rave sentiment shared on the Eplaya. I have been involved in dance culture for 12 years and have seen its decline just as people claim of burning mans decline. It is sad to see laziness in my generation and other generations. We have allowed ourselves to sit back and complain about people who are not doing it right instead of seeing past obstacles and producing a better environment that fosters education of the newer people in our culture. I am also guilty of all the above but to change myself hopefully somewhat I have decided to build an art project this year and look past my obstacles. In the dance scene I make it a point to sit with newer people and tell the history I know even if only in small doses. Rather than heckling etards I invite them to coffee sometime and sit and teach. It is a part of our society in general that is lacking. People are so unwilling to teach and expect that since no one taught them that the youth should figure it out on their own. Some people will get it and others won't but isn't it worth teaching so maybe some day a person who does not understand now might come to an understanding later when confronted with facts you have shared.

So those are my comments from some scrubby old raver man....take them or leave them...I can at least honestly say i am trying to make things better can you?

get older

observe youngsters

see them do the thing differently

complain about 'kids today'

repeat

bring people into your event and allow it to grow

allow the event to gain popularity and become the 'in' thing

allow those people interested in partying at the newest 'in' thing through the gates

do not educate the new people on how to become part of the event, bear the mantle of 'universal acceptance' and allow them to have their party

do not try to stop the exodous of the original event creators

replace the original event creators with more party-goers

take all dangerous things away from party-goers so that they do not hurt themselves

repeat until you have acheived Disneyfication

Though I'm sure that the truth is somewhere inbetween. Ya think?
