Tricycles
I need suggestions for good cheap tricycles. Reading reviews of the huffy at Walmart makes you say hmmmmmm.
When the only tool you got is a hammer, every problem looks like a hippie.

Re: Tricycles
Making one isn't too hard. come on over to three wheels, no tipping, no slipping... well not much. I got a kit like this one on ebay. wheels and all. Use your existing bike.

^+1 What Ellorum said!!
The kits are nice because you can use your exsisting bike frame.
I used a kit on a frame I picked up to use exclusively as a trike, but you can easily use just about any bike frame you already have.
Having a step-through type frame is nice if you've got one.
You can take it all apart for transporting in a smaller vehicle.
You will like having a trike! No tipping over when you wanna stop and look at stuff!
Just make sure the seat is high enough so you arent eating your knees.....
I couldnt believe how many people I saw riding around on bikes and the seat was really low!
I wouldnt've made it far like that!

So the theme this year is like a giant camp out in the desert? With people bringing lots of shit from all over? uh.. -Marscrumbs

I know there's pics of this all around here, but indulge me, friends. The long handle bars never felt right to me. Big long levers that I was constantly tightening, and kept coming loose again.
Extra plug for that seat: very comfortable. also, I tried out some new bike handle grips this year, very happy with them. I've had sore wrists and thumbs from bike riding, and these were great.

Re: Tricycles
I actually just located a pretty cheap one myself and I'm back-and-forthing on buying it...
On one hand I don't know when I'll actually be able to ATTEND Bm -but I hope within the next coming year and on the other I might not find one for this price again by the time it rolls around (no pun intended) .

Re: Tricycles
There are a couple other useful threads to check out - trikes vs. bikes and the three wheelers threads. Several makes and models get name-dropped, and quite a few awesome custom jobs are shown and talked about. If you take the route of building or modifying your own, check out unjonharley's Bike Builders Unite thread - part support group, part resource guide, part shared experience and all kinds of awesome.
The kit Elorrum talks about sounds like a great way to go if you have a current bike that you can use as a base.
As for me, my girlfriend and I looked at a few cheap options and came to the realization that if we were going to invest in something more than a cheap junky playa bike, we wanted something better than a cheap junky bike. And a cheap trike is just that. We saved our pennies for a little longer, and got port-o-trikes from Worksman. Worksman is a great bike company out of NYC, actually the oldest one in the US. Their primary business is commercial/industrial stuff for delivery companies and pushcarts and stuff, but they also do some damn fine bikes and trikes. The "port-o-trike" models we went for not only had 3 speeds (so we could pedal through dunes and stuff a little easier), but could fold in on themselves. They'll actually fit within a 3'x3'x3' cube of space if needed. That was a huge plus for us, since it meant we could fit them into our van, and also so that we could potentially keep them in the loft and use them in the city if we wanted to. They cost around $500 apiece, but well worth the investment.

Re: Tricycles
IT's time for a new trike thread.. The older one is long and drifted..
First on the list for trikes.. Do not buy the trike made for"adults".. They are heavy and hard to pedal.. The pedals are straight below the seat.. From that position you will wear blisters on your buns.. $400 dollars is way out of line to pay.. You may find one on Craig's List and cut the rear kit out.. Then build from there.. Set up the back axle and simply attach a good bike to it is one way to go.. Cut a step through's bike seat post off apply the bike to the rear end kit and place a seat so your legs are pumping forward.. You can find good saddles for this type at Good Will on fancy exercise machines.. Scrape out the machine, save the seat, save usable iron and throw the rest...
I ride ReTrike.. They are easy riders.. My goal is to build a (square?) frame around the rear wheels, bracket down to the wheel axle, pedals forward, chain feed a drive shaft to the left and a chain to drive a BMX type wheel drive..

because I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get one
Just don't buy what is sold as an "Adult Trike".. Those mothers are heavy and hard to peddle.. Unless you can or have it modified..
