Burritos are not from San Francisco. While wikipedia isn't necessarily always right, I have no reason to doubt that it was a regional item from Guanajuato. Yeah, it certainly gained in popularity in California, but via migrant farm workers in Central Valley, Fresno, and Stockton. I've also got to believe that if someplace in the bay area could lay claim, they'd have taken the crown from El Cholo in LA. On a side note, OregonRed, that's another place you may want to consider eating sometime. I don't remember having a burrito there, but do remember them having some of the best enchiladas I've ever had.

Man, yesterday was less productive than I'd hoped. New drive arrived as I'd hoped, but migrating nearly 3 terabytes of data files and updating the databases that pointed to those files took forever. So I've still got more drive upgrades to do and files to move, as well as testing of stuff, and then I've got to mount the power strips on the artspace island for Pandorra. Fortunately I did have time to get that third batch of limoncello off to a good start. I still need to coordinate with some friends who've got a meyer lemon tree in their yard and have offered to let me have enough to start a 4th batch.

The Counterfeit Bluesmobile has a number of flaws, such as inadequate rear wheel hubs. In the Grand Championship race, the left rear wheel hub broke on the third day. I lashed a bicycle to it instead. The ladies rode it like that six miles to the Finish Line.

Having a mid-day drink at the Burn2 press and blogger event in Second Life.



They're giving some of the more active writers and bloggers that cover the virtual world a tour through the place before the gates open so they can take some pics and talk about it in their own circles. Normally I would have an issue with the VIP-ish nature of such things, but since the technology of Second Life only allows for so many people in a given space before servers and lag come into the picture, I think it's a nice way to help share the load a little bit.

Just yesterday I knocked down a bunch of plants that had gone to seed..The birds have a bath and food for the trip south..

Gonna be starting night shift on Sunday for four days. 9:00pm to 05:30am so I'm trying to acclimate myself by staying up until at least 2:30 tonight and later tomorrow.

I like the idea of having all the variety to try, but those little cups sure look wasteful. Plus we make pots of coffee when Larry's home, so he can fill his Thermos. Just one more thing to take up counter space. But it is spiffy looking!

We saw one of those coffee thingers at the local giganta-mo-tron warehouse joint last week. I'm not actually much of a coffee drinker (I'll dial up a mocha when I'm at a cafe) but my girlfriend is. She was intrigued, but was hesitant about being locked into the modular specialty coffee things. If it would have had the option to do modular stuff or regular coffee brewing she'd have been sold.

Up at a weird hour, still quite drunk (woohoo, bonus round), and then scrambling to do a bit more stuff for our Burn2 build. I managed to sneak onto the virtual playa (it's closed for 12 hours before the gates open so the servers can be synchronized and optimized and balanced to handle the insane loads they'll be taking for the next week or two) and get tweaks made, plus got our virtual playa gifts finished up and put out for people. The virtual gates open at noon pacific... Yeah, they have gates, and a greeter's station, and you can ring the bell too. This year they've also got a bunch of free-to-use mutant vehicles to boot. Woohoo for getting it all done, time for another drink!

This brickwork is tedious but I'm hoping secure. The weather here is perfect, so, gotta take advantage.

I tried 2nd world once.......I didn't do very good, got confused and ran out crying.
I may try again some day. But, does it not take a pretty fast connection? The best I can do here is the 2nd level DSL, which IIRC is like 1.5 mbs.? does that sound right? I can't really stream youtubes very well, or videos, it usually has to stop and buffer at least once.

ah well........Like I need another reason to sit in front of a computer.

Mmmm... classic cartoons and vodka, it's a good morning indeed! I think it can do okay on a slower connection. I've got some friends from the UK who are on there quite a bit, and a fast connection there is like the slowest-of-the-slow dsl hookups.

I'll try and take some pics while I'm on art tours during the event, and will post 'em someplace (probably in a separate thread, I don't want to bomb the bar with 'em). I might even get a chance to shoot some video. But iffen you give it another try, you can adjust the graphics settings and the network connections settings in the program's preferences (ctrl-P on a PC, cmd-P on a mac). Reducing the graphics settings is a good idea on older machines, as well as with slower connections. The detail it's mostly cutting out is the shading and atmospheric details (sky details, shadows, and so on), you'd still be able to see the stuff people make. You'd also get a chance to walk around in Lewis' giant flying saucer - they got a really skilled SL builder guy who goes by the name Pygar Bu to re-create this year's man base.

I think we're gonna try and get out to the Farmer's Market and then back again in time for the burn2 thing to get started. We don't have shift responsibilities or anything though. Pandorra does volunteer with the lamplighters there, and likes to go to their dance parties.

Don't know how it would fly to have a Burn2 page going here where we could get some more information, but I know that I, for one, could really use it!

Just signed in and am finding my feet.... Finding the actual burn is a whole 'nother deal though! I'm broke and have no tent or supplies and really feel unprepared!

It is more cost effective to make a pot of coffee. But, those little cups, believe it or not are cheaper than a regular cup at a diner or restaurant.
