Bad dream

Post by Sundial » Sun Oct 20, 2013 7:52 am

I had a bad dream! I just woke up from it. It was about Burning Man, so I figured I'd post it here.

So I'm in what sort of looks like some twisted version of the will call tickets area. Its a magically self-contained Playa biome that for some reason is in my home town I think about where there's a cemetary (where three of my grandparents are buried, if that's of any relevance). i'm standing around there with a bunch of other people and our baggage waiting for the only bus from there to Black Rock City. Delle's there too.

I'm freaking out because both ends of my fire staff are FUCKED UP. Like broken or replaced with dumb shit or something. I'm going on about how blah blah blah I just wanted to light it up at Burning Man, and Delle's there reassuring me it'll be fine or I can jury rig something or whatever (the conversation specifics are fuzzy now).

Then I realize OH SHIT! I left like 80% of my shit at the hotel room! So then I'm magically at my hotel room. I think the room is sort of a weird fusion of a hotel room at the Sands and my own bedroom. Its a friggin DISASTER in there. I can't find anything its so messy, and all my movements are like trying to mvoe through molasses. No coordination at all.

I finally manage to gather all the crap I need. I don't know why, but there were two copies of my little day pack, and one has shinier zippers. I stare at the clock radio on the night stand and it says 10pm. Shit! They're long gone! Oh god I missed the only bus! What will I do now?! Did they take the few things I left at the bus waiting place?! Oh fuck I'm so sad and upset now!!!

Then I wake up and am all relieved it was just a dream.

But what does it MEEEEEEEAN?!

Schtev, you can rest assured that, since Delle was there, she took good care of all the stuff you left behind, and properly shared all your booze. 8)

Yep. Booze shared.

Truth be told tho, I woke from a very similar dream this morning. The whole middle part (back at the hotel room rooting thru endless stuff) was almost identical.

I ended up on the playa tho... with nothing.

I wish I could remember more.

Congratulations, you've added a playa prep/packing/in the wrong place at Burning Man anxiety dream to your life dream menu. This may include, but is not limited to:
1. at school, day before test, and you have not been to class in months.
2. parents finding the car is horribly dented, and you don't remember how you did it.
3. driving a vehicle with steadily shrinking controls. (anybody else?)
4. Car outside house honking for you, and you are not packed, cannot pack, must pack.

Inefficient bureaucracy?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

*wakes up *

Oh thank God! Just a nightmare...

You know I had another dream last night where I asked Elliot about a bike on the way, and he said he couldn't because I didn't reserve one ahead of time. He honestly said to talk to some department of the Canadian government who could loan me a bike for a buck fifty.

Last night I dreamed I was swimming in a giant hot tub with Larry Harvey's wife, she had a crush on me and I'd get free tickets for life. But all through the dream I kept wondering if Larry H. actually had a wife or if this was a scam, because a hot tub was involved. Not a pool, a giant hot tub, that was very important to me in the dream.

Not a bad dream, but very confusing.

I never saw that one! I just had that dream the other night. At least I've graduated. It used to be high school that I hadn't finished. This time it was college.

Always a math class though. Go figure.

Thankfully none of my BM dreams are of the frantic / panic kind.

Although I've had some elaborate ones, I have two quick ones that recur a lot

First 2 weeks off the playa I seem to come into a disoriented semi wakefullness and wonder who put this large square tent up while I slept (the walls of the room).

Year round about once a week if I doze off with a tv on I dream that there is a tv show on about the burn. Excited to see it, I wake up only to find its still on regular Adult Swim programming, or an infomercial if my wife had set something to record on another channel.

There must be others that I never remember because according to my wife I talk in my sleep fairly often asking about the artcar and other things burn related.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

My playa dreams have always been the best. They've gotten a little less frequent (only twice a week or so) and shorter in duration. So last night I decided to try something.

I took two things I only ever used on the Playa (a tiny bit of a particular sunscreen I was wearing and some coconut body butter) and mixed a dab of each with a tiny bit of playa dust. I put a dot of this armoatic salve just under my nose before bed, then went to sleep for about 9.5 hours. It was amazing. I am in the absolute best mood I've experienced in months.

Playa dust is a helluva drug.

Haha, it really is. Scent is tied so closely to memory; far closer than any other of our senses.

My last playa nightmare went like this: Some doofus brought a portable, square, concrete-walled nuclear reactor on wheels out to the playa. Hooked it up and was running their art-car sound system off it (mega-watt class amps) when it suddenly tipped over and most of the control rods fell-out. (That wasn't the nightmare).

In the next scene I'm running around trying to gather-up the control rods and put them back into the core before it goes critical. Ever try to wrest a shiny, cadmium, 40,000 rad/hr glowstick away from a sparklepony tripping on LSD? (THIS was the nightmare!).
