Aussie Girl - First timer
Hey Guys, How we all doing? Just wanted to say Hey! I'm new on here and am planning to make it to the burn next year.... just not really sure how I go about it. I'll mostly be going alone.... and I don't know anyone over there that would be going so I'm actually hoping that there are people that I can tag/accompany along with..... can anyone help me and lead me in the right direction?

You're definitely going to want to get in touch with any local burners to see how they manage and possibly share resources. Hopefully this link will help? http://www.burningmanaustralia.com/stat ... e/victoria
I know at least some long-distance burner groups rent and send large commercial shipping containers and will sell space to ship gear to individuals.
You might also consider attending Kiwiburn as a test run and networking opportunity. This (well, next) year it will happen Wednesday 22 January - Monday 27 January, conveniently right before BM tickets go on sale.

Welcome!
There are a bunch of Aussies on here, although they may be wankers that need to learn how to drink! (in spite of the Aussie reputation of being drinkers).

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hello and welcome to the board! You've got plenty of time to figure out all the details, starting with the First Timer's Guides and Survival Guides (which are linked on the main burningman.com homepage). From there, do some browsing around on the boards, there is a vast amount of info and answers to most questions already posted and tucked in around here somewhere.

Hi Lulu...already said...connect with local Burners...and trust me there are tons of Aussies who've joined us...and participate on this forum DAILY! You'll learn a lot and the universe will begin aligning with your intentions. Don't wait for things to happen but take a proactive stance...start planning how you're going to get here, packing essentials, how to gear up when you get to the States/SF/Reno, transportation stateside.
Now's the time to start collaborating with others coming from your direction. Don't camp with Aussies...they drink too much. Camp with Americans...we're loads of fun and we have funny accents!

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Re: Aussie Girl - First timer
Hi Lulu - I'm also a virgin burner who will be attending the burn next year for the first time. I'm doing a ton of preparation already, but I do need other bodies to help with setup etc. I would like to build a hexayurt which will accommodate a number of people I just am unable to assemble it alone. I've already got the power and cooling setup and will be working on refining those designs over the coming months. I would love to start a virgin camp that caters to virgins. I say that because of the number of camps I've tried to become a part of they all say the same thing. We are bulging at the seems and cutting back due to the sheer number of peeps who want to join.
I really don't mind expending the resources locally, because after all I'm stateside. If you are committed and willing to help coordinate the details then I'd be happy to have you on-board and we can work to create a virgin burner camp for the 2014 year.
Feel free to send me a private message and we can work out the particulars. BTW, I love Australia! I haven't been back there for a long time, but the people are wonderful and there isn't another place in the world were I've felt so welcome like I did in Australia.

Re: Aussie Girl - First timer
Thanks for the suggestion! I will drop over there and message Divreon as well. Maybe we can get this thing started. Best advice I can come up with is this, we can't be a camp full of sparkle ponies! Camp NSP (No Sparkle Ponies).
Like one of the posts said, we should meet up somewhere before heading through the gates, just so we have some idea what the group dynamics will be. There's plenty of time to work through the details. What I feel is most important for us newbs is to be radically self-reliant. Nothing will create a bigger divide than someone who has to carry someone else's ass the entire week, because they didn't prepare for this endeavor.
Thanks for your initial post I hope we can make this idea work for us!

Camp NSP.... i like!! I'm keen to give this a shot and make it work
I couldn't agree more regarding your points
- meet before entering through those magical gates.
- and being self-reliant
let me know how you go and thoughts.

Welcome lulu_Mou
Lots of burners in Melborne, unless of course they haven't made it back home yet.
They seem to wander a lot.
