good gift or moop?: Hand made bags, quality construction.
My wife makes hand made bags, she's volunteered to make a few for me to give away at burning man. They have a zipper, and an open pouch on the front. The bag's are sewn so they have room, on either side of the front pouch for sharpie sized pens(though as they are sealed on three sides, and long thin object that's thinner will also fit. I use mine for my electronic cigarettes.)
I obviously wouldn't have enough to be handing them to just anyone, but if someone commented on liking my bag, I'd be able to give them to those that want it. They roll up really small as they have no stiff walls. I'm thinking about attaching a BM2014 shrinkydink key chain to each. I throw mine over my neck like an oversized badge holder, but they can easily be carried as purses as well given the length of the strap.
Anyone foresee any problems with this that I don't?

That doesn't sound like MOOP at all, it sounds like a fun and functional gift. By being selective in who you offer it to, and those people being those who express an interest in it, you pretty much are guaranteeing that people who receive one will appreciate and enjoy it.

It's a good gift, Divreon. I was given a bag in 2001? maybe . . . a cute, printed bag with no zipper (fortunately deep enough not to matter) and a long strap. I used it for travel t.p., sanitizer and a clip light. I always have a "biffy bag" with me now. Others might use a small bag for their cigs and a portable ashtray, goggles/sunglasses or something. Anyway, nice idea.
Waiting for someone to admire yours--or keeping an eye out for someone in clear need of a bag--is an excellent way to go about it. There is sometimes the illusion prior to one's first Burn that a person must be ready to gift everyone at the event at all times, but it's much better to gift someone in need/someone you connect with/someone who values the same stuff.

Absolutely cool and functional! Swag with a half-life longer than 7 days is a GOOD thing!

Damn. Can't you just buy some cheap, plastic crap for us to moop? This is stuff we might actually want to keep.

as long as they're not covered in beads or sequins or other tiny things that might shed, i say two thumbs up. sounds like a useful, meaningful gift that a recipient would love and use.

Sounds like a fantastic idea. Not only is it Non-Moopy, but you could perhaps suggest each recipient, in exchange for your wonderful homemade bag, to promise to pick up 5 MOOPs, that way you're gifting something to the whole playa as well. I made a homemade bag last year and included a small mesh pocket (out of an old Orange bag) for storing Moop, separate from the main compartment. It did make me more motivated to pick up playa detritus since I had a spot to keep it until I got back to camp.
